The passengers of UNITED 93 were scared shitless
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 05:54 PM by Proud2BAmurkin
Why is it so important to try to hide that FACT and say they were "fearless" and not acting to save their own lives like EVERY ONE OF US WOULD???

They're all UNION and proud of it. And they're fully aware of how Bush reneged on his promises.

3. Damn...now,
..why do you hate America, hmm....We Americans are NEVER scared shitless, understand? We are fearless, brave - heroically so, when faced with the evil of Terrorists...got it? How dare you suggest we would show fear and feel like trapped rats in a situation like this?

14. The very fact that people voted for ** in '04 because they needed him
to "protect" them, proves some Americans are scared shitless.

terrified. I'm sure their intention was to save their lives - I don't for one minute believe that they willingly and purposely sacrificed themselves so the Capitol or WH could be spared. That is the propaganda of this administration.

It doesn't make the passengers actions any less heroic, however.

Edited for grievous grammar mistakes.

18. Agreed.
I don't think they were fearless, but frightened beyond belief as any of us would be to find ourselves in the midst of a hijack situation in the circumtances they found themselves.

I suspect and believe that their goal and concern was to save themselves and live to see their families and friends another day. I do not think that they thought beyond that, any more than anyone else in their shoes would have in the short time that they had to think about it. I don't think that they made a conscious decision to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the Capitol or the White House.

And, for the record, the United 93 movie does not portray them as sacrificing themselves for the greater good at all... it portrays them as trying to save themselves.

6. Are you referring to the film?
I haven't seen it yet. Did they make them seem super fearless?

Fear doesn't always make us flee. Sometimes it make us fight. Either way, it's still a fear-driven reaction.

19. I've seen it.
It does not at all portray them as fearless, let alone super fearless.

It portrays them as scared through and through, hesitant, unsure, and ultimately acting to save their lives, not to sacrifice themselves for others.

7. No, they were not fearless.

Some of the passengers weren't trying to crash the plane to save others. They were trying to stop the plane from going to its intended target and hopefully take over the controls from the terrorists so they could land in one piece.

I still think it's heroic to be able to do something like that even when you know there's a good chance of dying in the process.

11. There's no evidence that they even knew the target
Which, I think was the Capitol Building. They were trying to back the plane, especially since by then they found out about the other planes hiting the WTC and Pentagon.

But if by "propaganda" the poster above meant the movie itself, I saw it today and it was not propaganda at all.

As I've posted elsewhere tonight, it most certainly did not pander to the Bush administration at all.

Not only did it not pander to the Bush administration, on the contrary, it illustrates how utterly incompetent the gov't was in a crisis situation - i.e.: repeatedly querying where the hell the president and other governmental officials are while the FAA and NORAD and ATCs are trying to contact them; repeeated attempts to get "rules of engagement" without result; "Air Force 1 is in the air and they don't know anything about what's going on"; the military liaison guy is portrayed as a bumbling bureaucrat who is at first absent from his post and later gets nothing done at all even though when asked pointedly whether he is actually in contact with anyone in authority or not, he claims to be in contact with the Pentagon; all through the movie, you get the distinct impression that the Bush administration is completely absent and failing the public; then at the end of the movie, after the screen goes black, white letters appear on the screen to illustrate the depth of incompetence of the Bush administration, saying (paraphrasing) that at 10:18 a.m., president Bush finally gave authorization to shoot down the aircraft, some 15 minutes after it had crashed.

Judging from the comments made by audience members after the movie, the prevalent response was "Jesus Christ, if that isn't enough for people to see how incompetent Bush is, nothing is."

13. Bravery is the act of over coming being scared shitless enough to act
To do something; even, if it means you die. The idea of Rambo is and has always been a myth. These people did something because the alternative, to do nothing meant death to others as well themselves. However, to think they weren't afraid during the struggle is just plain stupid.

Thank you, MSgt213. That is an important thing to remember.

We all have fears. The heroes are the ones who swallow it down and keep moving forward. Good reminder to all of us.

I don't know where all of this "fearless" and "propaganda" crap is coming from all of a sudden. And I'm shocked that it's coming from Democrats who seem to be buying into the Repug way of thinking instead of being open minded - i.e. "this movie is pro-Bush and therefore must be dissed and treated with disdain without ever actually seeing it" etc. It is NOT pro-Bush or pro-repug at all. Even while it goes to great lengths to avoid propaganda on all sides, it does a GREAT job of drawing attention to how poorly the Bush admin performed, how absent the Bush admin was, how the Bush admin and its various agencies screwed up that day, and it even spells out in black and white (literally) in the closing minute of the film, just in case anyone missed the message, that the Bush admin was woefully and horrifically inadequate when it mattered.

Sheesh.

15. We don't even know where they really went!
The county coronor where Flight 93 supposedly crashed repeatedly stated that he never found any bodies or body parts at all. They seem to have mysteriously vanished along with the plane itself.

We've been totally lied to about what happened to Flight 93...it's irresponsible for Hollywood to use fiction to amplify false propaganda.

Fortuneately, the film isn't doing very well at the box office. Americans are finally waking up.

28. Everything the WH tells us is a lie, so the official story is a lie.
Oils companies are rich beyond belief. The money faucet is turned on full force in Washington thanks to 911. And you can read about it circa 1997 in the PNAC papers.

30. Because While They Were Scared Shitless
they fought back

fearless doesn't mean without fear

not letting fear paralyze you and fighting back is courage.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this: "courage is just fear who's said his/her prayers"

That's my belief, that heroes are not without fear, they just act on their fears.
