High Gas Prices net Sensenbrenner over $15k in one day

Congressman Sensenbrenner saw the value of his stock in energy companies increase by over $15,000 yesterday, while the people he represents are paying record prices at the pump. Bryan Kennedy, his opponent in the upcoming election, is questioning if that is the reason that Sensenbrenner hasn’t shown any leadership in calling for an investigation in the rapidly rising prices at the pump.”

“At about $3 a gallon, many families are really feeling the squeeze at the gas pump,” said Kennedy. “At prices like this, they don’t care about a Congressman’s political party, they want help. It appears that instead of helping the voters he represents, Jim Sensenbrenner is profiting off of them.”

According to a financial disclosure report that Sensenbrenner made, he owns stock in Exxon-Mobile, BP, and Halliburton Co. Below is a chart showing number of shares he owns, along with the opening and closing prices of the stocks from yesterday’s spike.

1. Who cares how much he made yesterday?

The markets fluctuate.

He'll be down $15,000 again sometime next week, I'm guessing.

If I added up just my up days this year, I'd be up $7,000 or so, but the markets move around a lot and I'm only up $2,400 or about 12%.

3. I do! He's personally vested in an industry that is screwing up

our country, from the war in Iraq to corruption througout Congress.

As a stockholder, he should not be voting on any energy bills, but he is one of the main gatekeepers of what is and isn't heard.

It's very important that people know he is profiting while others are suffering because of him.
