Poll question: US Anthem - in Spanish...
Let me ask you:

Is the fact that some Latin/Hispanic Americans have translated the Anthem into Spanish:

1) Worthy of front-page news
2) Another attempt for racist Rethuglicans to drive a wedge between immigrants and their holier-than-thou base
3) A perfect venue for the President to voice his opinion on what constitutes free speech (you can say/sing whatever you want, as long as it's in English)
4) Other

3. The most stupid non issue I've ever witnessed. And Bozo the bush..
coming out against the anthem in Spanish shows what a rascist asshole he is. My feeling is anybody singing OUR anthem in any language is a good thing and should be appreciated instead of scorned. Bush is an idiot.

4. Translating into something comprehensible
to Spanish speakers might help them understand what it means to be an American more. There is no reason to fear it. I would like to read how it was translated though.

5. My wife and I just locked horns over this,
Generally she's true-blue liberal, but she's completely opposed to this.

"Why can't they assimilate? Our ancestors had to. We're a big melting pot. Why don't they just melt a little bit?"

9. LOL! That's basically what I told her.
Also echoed the sentiment in this post that our anthem being sung in ANY language is a good thing.

10. I Gotta Agree With Your Wife On This One
My wife disagrees with me

But we speak English here and it's because our ancestors learned the language because it is what we speak here in the US.

So I think that if they want to be US citizens, or live here, they should learn the language.

I feel the same way about US Citizens who live in other countries as well.

11. I have to agree with your wife. Can you imagine for one minute
if we moved to another country and created an English version of their anthem? We would immediately be painted with the brush of arrogance. I am all for legal immigration, but I do believe some of our traditions should be respected and observed. I am not saying people have to give up their culture or their language, but they should learn some of our culture.

7. Other: in what language are the Canadian or the Belgian
anthem are sung? (two nations that are officially bi-lingual that I can think of right now)
