1. You've befuddled me.

I can't think of anything that can help this image. It's deplorable on its own merits.

Edited so no one thinks I was purposely taking a cheap shot...

3. I don't know if I'm comfortable with this...
I know you are poking fun at bush, but it seems to be at the expense of the soldier.

7. I kind of think the photo op is more at the expense of the soldier.
I know what you mean, though. But it's all too easy to imagine him making some kind of joke about it, probably trying to show how much they "have in common." He's leeching off the bravery and sacrifice of people who ACTUALLY SERVED!!

9. I agree with that -- I don't think the "lend me a hand" or "stumped"
comments are funny. That poor guy is fucked for life because of that fucking douche bag and his illegal war. Poke all the fun you want at shrubby, but please cut out the bad puns.

19. No.. not at all. We have TONS of veterans and military familes on DU
We're simply guessing at Bush's unbelievable lack of empathy, and what and the joke he is probably trying to tell to that soldier. Not against the soldier in the least... WE'RE the ones who are trying to bring them home. Not a laughing matter.

12. How much more can we ask of these people?
WireHaven't They Paid Enough?

$1,200,000.00

That's the amount of money wounded American soldiers owe the Pentagon. ThinkProgress highlighted a really interesting report to come out of the Government Accountability Office this morning titled, "MILITARY PAY: Hundreds of Battle-Injured GWOT Soldiers Have Struggled to Resolve Military Debts." The report describes the underlying issues behind casualty debt and the ways the Pentagon deals with it, which includes interest charges and referral to collection agencies.

I work at a VA hospital with disabled vets every single day.

That humor is very common among them.

Hospitals have the worst kind of humor sometimes... it's a defense mechanism.

22. "So soldier, here's your question. Careful now. It's a tricky one!"
Why did we invade Iraq?"

Start the 30-second clock . . . You don't have any lifelines left. Why did we invade Iraq?"

For extra bonus points, why are we occupying Iraq?"
