Gloom & Doom From Greekspeak: How until the whole thing crashes down?
Every day...

the rhetoric gets nastier...
the news becomes a little more opinion than fact...
the rich get richer...
the poor get poorer...
the middle class shrinks...
the national debt swells...
the corporations get bigger...
the "moral right" gets louder...
the constitution gets a little more tattered...
gas goes up...
personal debt goes up...
more jobs go to other countries...
the skies get dirtier...
the land gets more built up/drilled up/bought up/plowed up...

How much longer can this trend last before the whole country--the government, the people, the land, the economy, the environment--just collapse into a big, burning, flaming heap? Can we stop the careening jalopy? Or am I just being an over-sensitive librul?

3. We're all screwed.
But I tend to be not a little cynical.

4. In the small hours . . .
. . . I know that Hissyspit is right.

Then again, the only cause worth fighting for is a lost cause.

Keep fighting and laughing and singing and crying.

We are the ones who are really living life.

The war-mongering corporatists . . . they are self-loathing scumbags. And they, unlike us, will die unfullfilled.

6. Normally I take things in stride but sometimes I just wonder...
what is holding this together, and if I am at my core just a paranoid cynical-idealistic wierd-o.

7. I think you're as sane as they come.
But you'd best consider the source . . .

5. Everybody Knows by Leonard Cohan
Everybody knows the dice are loaded,
everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The Poor stay Poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes,
Everybody knows.

I have this song thanks, I prefer the original.

10. Mate, ask these questions after the mid-terms in November
If the Dems take one or both Houses of Congress, then there's hope - a slim hope, but hope nonetheless.

If not, THEN we're all fucked.

But you're right to ask in the first place.

12. I'd guess less than 10 years.
Given existing trends - energy prices and availability, U.S. budget issues, climate change - none
of the problems you mention can be fixed. I suspect that the new President in 2008 will feel
a kinship with the captain of the Titanic.

Bottom line, no, I don't think we can stop the careening jalopy. People are going to die
of famine, starvation - and war.

14. Peak Life
It seems we have reached a peak of sorts. Its been a strong climb up the mountain of more, more, more, these past 100 years of humananity's 1,000's of years of history.

How long can we stay at the peak, and how much room is there here at the peak for fellow travelers?

As kids we played 'King of the Hill'. From the mouth of babes comes now our reality, eh?

Well, one solution is to level the peak to make more room for everyone, but that means the top is lowered. Who is willing to take that first step down?

Down is now the only place to go for those at the peak... ignore those who say we can go even higher.
