pictures from today's march,
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 02:06 PM by cal04
A day after the military announced that April was the deadliest month for U.S. forces in
Iraqthis year, thousands of anti-war demonstrators marched Saturday through lower Manhattan to demand an immediate withdrawal of troops. Cindy Sheehan, a vociferous critic of the war whose soldier son also died in Iraq, joined in the march, as did actress Susan Sarandon and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. "End this war, bring the troops home," read one sign lifted by marchers on the sunny afternoon, three years after the war in Iraq began. The mother of a Marine killed two years ago in Iraq held a picture of her son, born in 1984 and killed 20 years later. One group marched under the banner "Veterans for Peace." "We are here today because the war is illegal, immoral and unethical," said the Rev. Al Sharpton. "We must bring the troops home."

13. The text on the big bush is worse than bin ladden sign just looks
funny - much clearer than anything in the same focal plane as near as I can tell.

I am not an expert - there may have been some touch ups - that's not uncommon - but it does look re-touched.

Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 02:22 PM by Catamount
I heard the crowds on my radio station, it sounded like a lot of people and
I was proud---I just don't understand your point about the photoshop thing!

Edited for addition.

25. I think that internationally distributed images of significant events
should be unaltered. I don't know for sure what the deal is with that sign - just looks a little unatural.

I am proud as punch for the marchers too - I would hate to see their efforts undermined by a planted or altered photo. If anything, I would expect a Rovian type plot to discredit the marchers in anyway possible and can easily see them planting a doctored photo to that end.

Sorry - I may be going off the deep end. The sooner Rove does his perp walk the better I will feel.

27. I was there and there were a ton of signs just like it, so, it doesn't
matter: Most of the signs today were about Bush lying, being the true axis of evil, and ending the war.

The crowd went on for ever. It was endless. Unbelievable!

I'm tired! Here is my sign:

23. One difference is the angle of the sign is such that the sun is not
shining directly on it like it is on the UFPJ sign next to it. I think that's all you're seeing.

2. Anti-War Rally Draws Really Big Numbers
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 01:17 PM by cal04
Gothamist is getting reports from all over that the anti-war protest currently going on down Broadway is a shockingly large one. Though it is only supposed to go from Union Square down Broadway to Worth Street, we're hearing reports of protesters backing up all the way to Madison Square!

Anybody got any photos? Reports? Etc.? Put 'em in the comments and we'll update this post as more info becomes available (i.e. when the rally actually finishes).

26. this is the biggest problem
the media not televising these marches the same thing happened it Sept. 2005 in Washington but we were overlooked by Hurricane Rita. These dumb freaks in the media are kissing up to bush co, but it should not stop those who want to protest. Wait until Monday, I bet the boycott marches, will stir up the kiss up media. Discontent in the US is igniting, finally.

11. march "also meant to oppose any military action against Iran

Organizers said the march was also meant to oppose any military action against Iran, which is facing international criticism over its nuclear program. The event was organized by the group United for Peace and Justice.

Just add the official esitmate and organizers' estimate together and divide by 2. That's how I usually do it.

24. That is impressive. That overhead shot of the crowd ~
Why is this not on the media? We saw the immigrant marches, and they impressed people with the numbers ~ there have been huge anti-war marches yet hardly any coverage ~
