* hits new low at Rasmussen plus they will be making a slight modification

President Bush Job Approval

Saturday April 29, 2006--Public approval of President George W. Bush continues to decline. Today, for the third time in two weeks, the President's Job Approval Rating has fallen to the lowest level ever measured by Rasmussen Reports.

Just 37% of Americans now give the President their Approval, only 16% Strongly Approve. Even among Republicans, approval has tumbled and is currently measured at 66%. For most of his first term, Bush earned Approval Ratings in the high 80s from Republicans.

At the other end of the spectrum, 62% Disapprove including 45% who Strongly Disapprove. Those figures are also the bleakest for President Bush ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports.

Beginning tomorrow (Sunday), our Job Approval updates will be based upon data using a slight modification to our weighting process. We will adjust our partisan weighting targets once each month based upon survey data collected over the preceding three months. This will maintain the stability needed to follow trends while adjusting periodically for any substantive shifts in partisan affiliation. Recently, we released a summary of our data on partisan shifts over the past couple of years.

Bush Job Approval

Strongly Approve 16%
Somewhat Approve 21%
Somewhat Disapprove 16%
Strongly Disapprov 45%

1. They are finding that 'pukes don't answer the phone as much they used to
so to counter that trend by weighting them more heavily so their poll will be more "accurate"

Have been re-registering as Independent or Democratic, and they cannot find enough Republicans anymore.

10. No, they'll just be taking the positive responses from
registered pubbies and doubling them, while deleting all negative responses from registered pubbies.

This is the least accurate major poll out there and generally the most flattering to the administration.

7. Strongly Disapprove vs Strongly Approve
Getting close to 3:1 and a majority.

Every strategy to boost the "Base" is pushing more voters away while they cling to that 16%. Nice job Rove!

It's hard to say with Rasmussen, which has generally been one of the more favorable polls for Bush, but the adjustment may lead to even worse numbers for Bush. As I understand it, the poll is weighted for party identification. If their data suggests that fewer people are identifiting with the Republicans (most likely), there is going to be less pro-Bush bias.

8. Rasmussen is usually Bush's high approval

If Rasmassen took his samples somewhere other than the nineteenth hole of ritzy country clubs, he might get figures more realistic than what he gets.
