Another RANT re: unbelievable corpmedia treatment of Dems (this time Dean)
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 04:01 PM by blm
Want to know why the American people, in general, can't seem to wrap their minds around the points Democrats make? They don't have time to search around for the details and the corporate media makes sure not to give their side of the issues the best airtime or the frontpage printing ink necessary.

We all know Dean was in Charlotte, NC yesterday and today. There was a Dem barbecue and rally last night with the door-to-door canvassing today.

The only major Charlotte paper gave last night's rally a whole FOUR PARAGRAPHS and they placed that microscopic article on some leftover space on the OBITUARY PAGE.

There isn't anything wrong with the Dem message and the Dem leaders that we have had - the problem is the corporate media that ignores the actual details of any issue that Dems are addressing or purposefully confuses the audience by acting perplexed themselves, no matter how simple the statement.

If you would like to add your complaint to mine for the outrageous PLACEMENT of the Dean article on the obituary page, the email address is

opinion@charlotteobserver.com

This is BLATANT - they don't even effing care how blatant it is.

3. "Not sure I agree with you 100 percent on your police work, there, Lou."
"There isn't anything wrong with the Dem message and the Dem leaders that we have had"

Supporting the Patriot Act, supporting the war, and approving Bush's nominees: any of that ring a bell?

True, the press sucks. But it's hardly to blame for Democratic spinelessness and appeasement; alas, those golden qualities came from within. Check out Harry Reid's approval rating, even lower than Bush's: such is the fate of a worm in a time that demands courage.

8. You make my point - Overall Dem issues are AVOIDED by the corpmedia.
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 07:15 PM by blm
So, because YOU don't hear much about all the issues that the majority of Democrats are united on, the ones where there is some division gets all the media attention and thus most of the attention from us.

Dem message gets stuck on the obituary page - how fitting. And how typical of rightwing control of corporate media.

message is given, the facts are ignored and media will sneer, dismiss, ridicule or flat out spin from what dem is really saying. another tactic is media will then attack the dem saying they are simply attacking the repugs. arent you being mean. the american people are tired of the dems attacking the opposition. even though it is talking about policy.

7. Recommended,.
Thanks for letting us know about the media coverage. Or lack thereof.
He did get on CNN briefly this morning before the canvassing. But the video is not at the CNN website, and not a single left blogger covered it. I did find the transcript at CNN a few minutes ago.

I found the video from Hardball at a right wing blog. None of the left media we do have bothered to cover it.

They do that to all our Democrats and we are letting them spin us.

9. The left media didn't cover Kerry's speech to the Firefighters Convention
in Aug 2004 where he attacked the swiftliars - neither did the corporate media - so, in their view, it never happened.

Just like you hear everyday now, "The Dems have no plans."

That worked out well for the nation, didn't it?

11. "The Democrats don't have a plan?" If I hear that damn M$M line again
my head's going to explode! And IF they make these kinds af false accusations when Dems are actually present, they talk over them, don't allow them enough time, or are so out numbered by the talking points of their other RW guests, that it "appears" that we have no plan. I'm extremely angry and frustrated with the mediawhores. We have not had a liberal press for DECADES!

12. We need a label to stick to the RWers who control the press,
and we have to make it STICK, like LIBRULS. And get some leaders to complain and throw it into the media's faces about how slanted their coverage is and has been! We have a NEOCON Press. A Right Wing Press. A Hitlerite Press. A Propaganda Machine Press. A B*-Loving Press (I can't bare the thought of those two completely incongruent words appearing together-B* and Love)

Of course they are. Corporations are mostly supportive of the Neo Fascist Bush Regime for business reasons, not political reasons. The Bush Regime is good for the Media Corps so it stands to reason that most Corp. Media support The Bush Regime.

time they make an appearance. We're talking Rush Rudeness. People pay attention to that. As long as it's not screaming ala Dean style, which was played up in the (Yes) Corporate media almost as much as Lewinsky's thong underwear.

19. That's the rub - if Dems pump up the volume. it gets distorted beyond
recognition, no matter what. They get spun into nutcases and all honest perspective is lost in the volume of the RW media machine, which includes about 90% of all broadcast media.

17. Monied Press?
Corporate Media?

Half Truths and Inuendo Press?

Yellow Journalism

Slacker Media

Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Press

------------------

We do need a catchy term that fairly describes the one-sided reporting. Dean's 'Culture of Corruption' is gaining, he needs to coin a term for the present day (m)ass media.

23. I found one coverage from a newspaper, and a personal blog post.
http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/14461331.htm

1:14 pm | Howard Dean goes door-to-door
DAVID PERLMUTT
Staff Writer
George and Patricia Raad and their daughter Alice were cruising along Central Avenue on a bright Saturday morning, when, minding their own business, they all spotted a familiar face across the road.

"It's Howard Dean!" shouted Patricia.

"Hi, Howard!" Alice yelled out the window.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

And this from the blog by someone who was there. Just a couple of snips.

Dean in Charlotte.....

Excited was the mood in Charlotte Fr. night when Anne from Asheville and I arrived at the Dem. fund raiser barbecue. There were 450 attending, and the expected 250 tops. The food ran out, which was a good thing, it would have only made standing room only trickier.
As Howard was coming down the walk, he spied Anne's DFA shirt and she got a big Howardly Hug. It pays to wear your DFA stuff folks.

His speech was great, rolled up sleeves, no tie, campaign style. He framed many values, the six Dem points, and some inspirational stories about how the 50 state effort is already winning. People were signing up to go door to door with him in the morning. While they were canvassing on Sat., someone driving by yelled for him to run again our country needed him."

http://www.blogforamerica.com/
I bet they did care that the food ran out, though.

It should have been in First section as it was a NATIONAL event and the NATIONAL Chair chose to be in Charlotte as part of the NATIONAL event.

Dean's Broad Brush

"Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's much-debated "50 state strategy" made its national debut on Saturday with more than 1,000 voter-canvassing events across the country, designed to spread the party's message through neighbor-to-neighbor contact.

The goal of the canvassing campaign was to hang 1 million door-knocker signs outlining the six main principles of the Democratic agenda heading into the 2006 midterm elections -- among them "real security," "energy independence" and "honest leadership and open government." House Republicans released a point-by-point answer to the Democrats' plan Friday, a "prebuttal" of Dean's campaign.

Nonetheless, DNC officials claimed at least one event in every state, and in many states dozens of events were scheduled. Ohio, the key battleground of the 2004 election, led the pack with 78 events; even in Republican-leaning Montana, 30 events were planned. Dean's 50-state strategy is aimed at making the party competitive nationwide. Predecessors focused far more resources on the much smaller set of states where Democrats run competitively in presidential elections -- a narrow vision that Dean believes neglected the party's long-term interests.

"In the 2004 elections raised record amounts of money and had record turnout, but the ability to have this kind of infrastructure was something we were lacking," said DNC communications director Karen Finney."
