No shopping on Monday
Regardless of your view on immigration, I would think most everybody is sick of not being able to see a doctor, struggling to pay for college, sky high power bills, $50 shirts that cost companies $1.00 to make.

Stand against labor exploitation everywhere. If you have to go to work to pay the bills, okay. But no shopping on Monday, NONE. Make all retail establishments a ghost town. For one day. Nobody will go out of business over one day.

Who's with me?

4. OK
but, I fail to see how this works.....don't we just put off until Tuesday the things we would have bought on Monday??? Someone 'splain it to me, please.

I do like the boycott of Exxon-Mobil tho....after that one is finished, just move on to Shell or Chevron.

6. I have my suspicions that big business is supporting these
"immigration" protests. I'm not sure I want to support big business.

I'm whole heartily against the exploitation of labor but these folks want open borders in order to ensure an unlimited supply of complaisant, timid cheap labor. If it isn't being orchestrated by big business then why aren't these immigrants protesting for better working conditions and higher pay?

9. Big business is never in favor of consumer boycotts.
Consider it a general strike in protest of anything you want to protest, the war, the criminal cabal in the white house, the price of gas. Lets all act as one. They think they can divide us up indefinately and pit us one against the other and fill us with fear uncertainty and doubt. Got FUD yet? Prove 'em wrong.

13. They are, for one
And they need a path to citizenship, legal status, for two. Once they get that, then we will see more fighting for higher wages and the like. It all goes together.

And no, big business is not behind these strikes.

17. Are you against labor exploitation?
Are you against big business exploiting labor in Mexico so that their economy can't grow so that these people can work in their own country?

Then stand together to stop it. Put big business on notice. We're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore. They will not get away with pitting worker against worker, no matter the color of our skin or our country of origin.

We should rejoice that we still have jobs in
this country and what we really need to do is
require employers to stick to the laws on

Maybe it was a prelude to the EQ forcasters have been predicting. lol

No canvassing here yet, but our chair keeps working his hiney off.

What dune sale? I'm a little out of it, since most of my activist time is spent on protesting the LNG terminal next to some of our dunes.

27. Always something, isn't it?
I hadn't heard about the LNG terminal. Where at exactly?

As you're going south across the bridge, the dune right over there to the right. You know, the thing Florence is most known for, the bridge and dune view. The county wanted to sell it. :eyes: Half the town came out on it, way more than they expected. The state's going to buy it and make it a park, at least that's the plan. And I think the West Lane Commissioner is going to lose her seat over it, which is a good thing for the whole county.

30. The LNG terminal proposed site
is on the North Spit of Coos Bay. Jordan Cove, who is trying to sell this to the public, has already bought the land.

If you're driving south on that bridge, look to your left on the north side of the bay.

Our group have been fighting this for over two years now. If you don't know what LNG is or what it can do, google "LNG". Be prepared to be freaked out.

Richard Clarke, counter-terrorism agent said:

Clarke wrote that in the hours after the 9/11 attacks, he instructed the Coast Guard to close Boston Harbor. He feared that an LNG tanker coming into Boston might be another terrorist target.

"Had one of the giant tankers blown up in the harbor," Clarke wrote, "it would have wiped out downtown Boston."

34. I'm familiar with LNG
Not overly knowledgeable, but familiar enough to know nobody wants it.

I checked out this site, http://www.jordancoveretort.com, and I didn't notice much of a focus on persistent leaks or spills. I know spills happen every day in Alaska, gallons here, gallons there. I would think that would destroy the ocean, we have a much smaller coastline than Alaska. I don't think our ocean can stand any more stuff being discharged into it, and I know the salmon can't take much more. The terrorist angle is important, but it isn't my biggest worry. I know Coos Bay is a bit different than here, so maybe that gets people more riled up down there, don't know.

I saw they're trying to get terminals into Warrenton or on the Columbia too. Looks like Astoria shut it down flat. I wonder why not Gardiner, you know that old mill that's just sitting there. Not that I think this is a good idea at all, it's just that's where I'd try for if I were this company. Just a self-reminder to be on the look-out for that.

Why can't we just push for clean fuel. Is there some kind of clean energy business we can bring to Coos Bay? Solar tiles? Wave energy? Something.

35. Do you remember the vote for a gas pipeline in 1999?
(This was before I moved here in 2000.) No one used gas prior to that. I asked everyone I knew why we needed a gas pipeline. No one could give me an answer, not even one of our county commisioners, Nikky Whitty.

The production of the pipeline was a big boondoggle. There were so many screw ups, that the original company had to be fired BEFORE finishing, costing the county lots more $$$.

Then a year after the pipeline was completed, I heard about the LNG terminal.

The pipeline was built for the LNG terminal. Wanna guess who will profit from it? It sure ain't the citizens between Coos Bay and Roseburg. Does peak oil ring a bell?

LNG terminals are being proposed in numerous areas across the country. Some have been stopped, like in Eureka, CA. I'm following the proposal in Fall River, MASS, hoping to find a way to stop it here.

I moved here for the clean air, the trees (I've always been a city girl until now) and to feel safe. I can't feel safe living close to a LNG terminal. Moreover, I can't wrap my brain around how it would affect our fishermen and our bay.

29. So protest against illegal hiring
My son in law is a contractor. He doesn't hire undocumented workers and he is willing to pay higher wages to get the best workers. We're lucky to live in an area where it's not much of a problem, yet. But imagine what it would be like for him if he suddenly was up against a company who did hire undocumented workers. Sooner or later, he has to do something to stay competitive. The unscrupulous business owner is just as guilty. So stand up against them.

When immigrants are legal workers, they can stand up for labor laws and wages and join unions. It's better for everybody. That's the way to go, everybody standing up for fair wages and a good standard of living, for workers around the world. Stop letting business pit worker against worker, it's how working people always lose.

32. Great post sandnsea
I am also a contractor and I see this problem everyday. I also realize what needs to be done with the employers that hire Illegals. In the state I work in we have to have a contractors license and this is what I propose. Any contractor that hires Illegals should have their license pulled and not allowed to do business in my state. That would make contractors stop and think. This is a link that anyone can turn in a business owner that hires Illegals.....http://www.wehirealiens.com/default.asp

26. Join
Stand in solidarity against businesses who exploit workers. Put a big big sign in your window, Stop Illegal Employers.

Because when other businesses undercut you, sooner or later you either have to cut your profit margin or cut your labor costs. It's to your benefit to stand up against big business and illegal employers too.
