NEW YORK (AP) - New York police aren't giving a size estimate on the crowd, but organizers claim 300-thousand people turned out for an anti-war protest in Manhattan today.

NEW YORK -- Tens of thousands of anti-war protesters marched Saturday through Manhattan to demand an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq just hours after an American soldier died in a roadside explosion in Baghdad _ the 70th U.S. fighter killed in that country this month.

The demonstrators stretched for about 10 city blocks as they headed down Broadway. A police spokesman declined to give an estimate of the size of the crowd, although organizers claimed there were 300,000 people. There were no arrests.

18. Yeah, DC had 1/2 million on 9/24/05 and 2 Million in Oct for Millions More

9/24/05 they said "Tens of Thousands" for the AntiWar Protest. I was there and even though I missed a lot of it (because of "scheduled transportation delays". I mean "scheduled maintenance" on the Metro) I caught the tail of it - which indicated how huge it had been.

Someone said a Google Earth pic of the protest march had been analyzed at 1/2 million. Then the reporters started saying that organizers thought that it could be up to 300,000. First responders were around and saying it was the biggest protest they had seen in DC since the 60's. So I'm fairly certain the Google estimate was closer, but I was there and I'll never know for sure.

And DC gave more local coverage to some St Bernard that swallowed a knife and lived. And poor old dead Natalie Holloway had to come back and service the media again.

Then in October for the Anniversary of the Million Man March in DC they had 2 Million and that was reported as hundreds of thousands. There were pictures of the Reflecting Pool by the Washington Monument being full of people. That area is HUGE.
