An hour ago, DU was filled with a unified voice of appreciation. Then, a few people -- just a few, mind you -- questioned it. Now there's a controversy?

No, there's not a controversy. There are, well, people who seem to have suddenly developed a need for a controversy.

I think he is safe. I do not think he will be disappeared.

I think tonight, in the long run, will not matter one whit-unless it starts a trend where the press actually do their jobs.

He ripped their heads off and they have it coming and Colbert isn't going to waste his time getting pulled into yet another fake GOP-created TV controversy. So there's nothing here except for an unvarnished, unprotected, unmitigated thrashing embarrassment for the boy king. He was skewered more thoroughly and more mercliessly than a person would have thought possible. His humiliation was nearly complete tonight.

...and maybe people there weren't laughing because the truth hurts, especially if one has been complicit in this madness as so many in the press have been. Also plenty of the people in the audience were ** sympathizers, so, of course, they wouldn't think it was funny. I don't think it matters whether people there laughed or not. Colbert got his (and our) point across with a vengeance.
