denial, spin or just plain stupid? GDP/economy
I've been watching various RW-blatherheads trying to defend bush/repub party

one of the "themes" that keeps popping up - is advising bush/repub party to emphasize the "economy" - and they point to the latest GDP numbers

I know most of this is just spin - but I'm also wondering how much is being "colored" by denial or just plain stupidity?

so the GDP numbers are up - great - but how does that translate to me, you and joe-six-pack?

I look at the GDP numbers and I look at my wallet - I'm not seeing any of those GDP numbers trickling into my wallet

gas costs more, and that increase is also being passed down to us at stores for buying things such as groceries - so that's even less money in my wallet

thanks to bush's bankruptcy bill - credit card payments have increase, and that translates to less money in my wallet

(and the list can go on and on...)

I guess what I'm trying to say is - does JOE-6pack really give a crap about the GDP when it doesn't help his wallet? How many people even know what the GDP means? How many understand it?

When push comes to shove - GDP means crap if it doesn't show up in our wallets.

3. Balsa wood floating on...
Quicksand (and 100 x 1000lb bags of lead distributed throughout the house) . What's that? Hey... it's one of the Chinese ministers and he's keeping the giant 'cork' in the 12-inch scuttle/hole Bush bored through the hull of the foundation!

Please, please don't pull the cork? What's that? Noooooo! Noooo Please Mr. President... put down that industrial strength 12-inch hole driller.... we don't have any more 12-inch corks--and nobody to stand on them to keep them from popping out. If you drill any more holes, we'll sink!

The good ship USA will be lost... (and there'll be nothing Cap'n Cheney and his first mate George "Gilligen" Bush can do...)(Of course, it's a house-boat and 'Gilligen' was following Cap's orders to "lighten" the ship--so it'd float better...).

2. 50 Years ago it mattered
Because many companies passed on the profits to workers in pay raises (though not always willingly) because it was due to sales. Now they dpon't have to because they outsource the work and that's how they turn bigger profits. It's cost cutting not revenue genarating that's making a lot of this money.

4. What makes you think
they care about "me, you and joe-six-pack" as you put it? By accident (and believe me it was an accident) I caught about a minute yesterday of a discussion on Fox about the economy. There were 3 or 4 right-wing talking heads --- I have no idea whom they were. The first thing that struck me was their utter arrogance and the assumptions they blithely made. The gist of the discussion was that the economy was fantastic/sizzling and the only problem was that Bush needed to get himself a Treasury Secretary who would get out there and tell everyone how great things really are. These guys divide the world into 2 groups: their circle of power-pals at the country club and everyone else --- and everyone else might as well be Katrina victims. Those folks from the other side of town whom you'd prefer not to have to see at all, but you need to do the gardening, valet-parking, dish-washing and serve as cannon fodder when there's a war on. That's how they view the middle and poor classes.
