China laughing at us
while we spend the day in a tizzy over Colbert bitchslapping Bushco they have created another 100,000 jobs. Face it people. Until that 60 odd % that disapproves of Bush is willing to show up in Washington with farm implements demanding mass changes we are all screwed.

Amazing - yes, very powerful. Agree it should be required for everyone.

I liked it all - they have either 1.2 Billion or 1.5 Billion depending on who's counting. - meaning our whole population- including the illegals -- is just a rounding error to them.

profound.

3. Were those rice patty jobs?
America's 4.7% un-employment rate is near full employment. China has a near 30% un-employment rate where they live on starvation level govt programs with no-hope for any job.

No, more than likely they were sweat-shop jobs making plastic trinkets for the real patriots :sarcasm: that shop exclusively at wallyworld.

6. I have a feeling you are going to be around for a long time
:eyes:

4.7% is lowball as far as unemployment records go, it only takes into account those that qualify for services, such as UI and displaced worker programs. Once these people no longer qualify, they are not necessarily employed. It also does not take into consideration those that are working 2-3 part time, non-benefits paying jobs.

Have a nice day...

RE: 4.7% is lowball as far as unemployment records go

I know... but China is no way doing as well as America is. However, China is experience rapid growth because they came from rock bottom just 20 years.

China is doing so much better economicly now, the latest I heard is that their using 1,700% more oil than they did in 1980.

16. my Chinese mother-in-law...
Lives very nicely in a nice apartment in a nice city on her $900/year government pension. Yes, I said $900/year. She recently took a week long vacation to Thailand, and is going to Europe for a few weeks later this summer with her husband. Her husband is making maybe $2000/year working part-time.

The cost of living is a fraction of what it is here - you can buy DVDs of the latest Hollywood blockbusters for 50 cents to $1, and they aren't cheap knockoff DVDs like you buy in Chinatown in NYC or Los Angeles. They are high quality. A former co-worker of my wife relocated his family to Shanghai from Massachusetts - his wife, dog & 4 kids. One of the kids is now taking piano lessons in China & the teacher comes to their home to give lessons for $4/hour.

25. Our Real Unemployment figure is a lot higher than what is reported
March 2006 Unemployment figures, Not seasonally adjusted:

U3: 4.8%

U6: 8.5%

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/empsit.pdf

U6 is the measure that takes into account the long-term unemployed and underemployed. It portrays the truth of our employment situation, not the gloss government likes to put on it.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) maintains six unemployment figures, U-1 through U-6, but the media only report U-3. The most inclusive figure, U-6, the BLS defines as "Total unemployed, plus all marginally attached workers, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all marginally attached workers" where the following definitions apply:

Marginally attached workers are persons who currently are neither working nor looking for work but indicate that they want and are available for a job and have looked for work sometime in the recent past.

Discouraged workers, a subset of the marginally attached, have given a job-market related reason for not currently looking for a job.

Persons employed part time for economic reasons are those who want and are available for full-time work but have had to settle for a part-time schedule.

18. Over the past 25 years
China has moved over 300 million people out of poverty. They are well on their way to moving at least another 300 million over the next 25.

In the US, we've seen a rise in the number in poverty in the past 25 years.

XXXX

SO that leaves what, another 400 million people to pull out of poverty?

If I was in poverty, I think would enjoy my poverty better here than in China.

22. You have no idea what you are talking about
First of all, the unemployment rate in the United States is not anywhere close to 4.7%. That is sheer fiction. I think the current formula for quantifying the rate of unemployment by the Bush team is to count anyone who lost their job yesterday and filed for benefits today, and whose middle name starts with the letter 'Q'.

Of course that's moot anyway because the unemployment rate has jack all to do with what China is doing to us economically right now. Here's a hint for you; take a look at the trade deficit numbers. How long do you think we can keep pouring our money into China's economy anyway?

But of course I'm wasting my time here. Your agenda is obvious, even if your grammar/spelling isn't.

Un-employment rate is what it is, but the original posts assertion of 100k jobs a day in china is funny..as if they were some kind of high paying U.S equelivant job.

and yes China seems to have replaced Japan as the nation who will crush America economicaly ..but it never happens.

Hey, TY for noticing!

REF: What is your interpretation of liberty?

It is the opposite of Oppression.

(Oppression)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oppression is the negative outcome experienced by people targeted by the arbitrary and cruel exercise of power in a society or social group. The term itself derives from the idea of being "weighted down."

The term oppression is primarily used to describe how a certain group is being kept down by unjust use of force, authority, or societal norms.
