4. "Glacier" good, but
"Deck chairs on the Hindenberg" even better!
I took it to mean that this admin. is not just sinking, but actually going down in flames.

2. The "platform" zinger...This man doesn't just stand FOR platforms, he
stands ON platforms, on aircraft carriers, on rubble on flooded city squares"

Whew...my husband and I gaped at each other when he said it. I still can't get over it this morning, so I'm glad to see another Colbert OP! MKJ

28. Bob Jones university is a Right wing religious school
That all the rethugs speak at to get the fundie vote. McCain had some problems with them when he ran for president last time.

Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 07:53 AM by Divernan
It is impossible to pick the best - giving Scalia back his obscene gesture & comment, the whole Helen Thomas video; the generals have to retire before they can stop supporting Bush bit; on and on.

The comment about "the government that governs best, governs the least...and by these standards we have set up a fanstastic government in Iraq" -- that one was pretty good, too!

16. The comment about McClellan...
...wanting to spend more time with Andy Card's kids. What was that about? I was watching it a second time around, and I'm guessing it was a thin-veiled insult about the Gannon situation? Because McClellan doesn't have a family to go home and "spend time with?" Was that the point he was making? Anyone know if McClellan is married?

21. McClellan is said to be in the closet, and he married a woman
just before the Gannon scandal broke. It was a "long distance relationship." I suppose one could connect the dots, but who cares what the flaccid wuss does with his time at this point? He's a has-been...!

Background: Is Bush Press Aide Gay? http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/02/021405whAide.htm

And from WAPO, when he took the lead job:
But McClellan refused to identify his fiancee, at least on camera. She is Jill Martinez, a March of Dimes coordinator in Austin. They met at a party last year and have been keeping up a long-distance relationship. And that is about all McClellan will reveal.

"There's enough attention focused on me without going into too much detail on the personal side," he says.

22. Ahhh, ok...
Thanks for the info. Them I'm guessing, yeah, that was a jab at McClellan's sexuality. McClellan turned a little red-faced when they showed him too.

24. Or it could have been an oblique jab at Andy Card
Andy has a couple of claims to fame. First, he is widely regarded as a "nice guy" and a "gentleman." He isn't a killer like the rest of them. Second, he was always the first one in, and the last one out. He routinely worked sixteen hour days, and had NO LIFE at all--he never saw his family in daylight.

But, you know how it is, spending TIME in the office doesn't always equate to QUALITY in work output.

It was one of those statements that ya kinda mull over...~!

17. Mine was pointing out Wilson and Plame
most famous husband since Dezi Arnez.

I was ROFL when he said Plame's name clapped his hand over his mouth and then asked if Patrick Fitzgerald was in the audience.

19. THE most biting one in my opinion
Was the crack about the photo op.

It rolled iraq, katrina and all the other stuff ups of the administration into one.

It was so so so too harsh to say "There is nothing this country can't defeat with a perfectly planned photo opportunity" or something to that effect. I am going to get it and make it my signature!

23. I think that's when the crowd turned on him a little bit...
Hell, it even seemed like Bush was smiling every now and then up to that point, but I guess that one hit too close to home.

He still had some of his biggest laughs after that point, but I figured that was just because a few of his later comments were just too funny not to chuckle at :)

25. There was another HUGE call.
"If you're strong enough to go on one of those pundit shows, you can stand on a bank of computers and order men into battle."

That was also a HUGE call, while it was directed at the generals, it certainly seems a pretty serious call about the administration as well.

The original quote I was trying to remember was "No matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world"

That is just so SO well worded. We don't want to fix things or make them better, we just want to be SEEN to be making things better...
