7. No one would take that bet.
The drapery in the background would make a better president.

"lump in the bed," not the draperies--per Bush*

5. Oh Boo Hoo
It looked like a lot of people at the dinner weren't laughing.
That stunned silence from many areas of the crowd was because they were being beaten over the head by the truth.

On note: As much as it pains me to say this...Kudos to Benito Scalia for laughing at the jokes made by Colbert at his expense.

9. How could he not?? I mean, come ON, that was a hoot!
I thought his performance was BRUTALLY good. And the thing is, he didn't have to take any cheap shots to do it...he just said what everyone else is thinking (even the GOP, alone in their beds in the dark of night, though they'd never admit it).

11. I have to say
that Scalia not only laughed but laughed heartily. He certainly was a good sport, but I guess he is one of the few in our country who can still laugh. But I too noticed the stunning silence by the crowd, well except for the librallls. I would like to see that again with little bubbles over their heads telling us what they were thinking. It was a brilliant piece of work and Colbert should be very proud, but I hope he doesn't listen to the Sunday morning airbags.

The bit with Helen Thomas was priceless and her reaction to it was even better. Great lady, great balls.

13. Their silence didn't really hit me until Colbert said
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 08:34 AM by rpannier
You should spend more time with your families, write that novel you’ve always wanted to write. You know, the one about the fearless reporter who stands up to the administration. You know– fiction.

And there was little laughter. Then it dawned on me that these morons were most likely upset because they were being hit with the "truthiness." It reminded me of the silence at the Academy Awards when John Stewart would hit a zinger aimed at Hollywood and (except for Chris Rock and few others) nobody laughed.

edited because I saw a chance to write truthiness.

20. Yes
He not only said that but he said so much that I think we need to listen to it over and over to hear all he actually did say. I bet 99 percent of those in the room left shaking their heads wondering what the hell happened back there. It actually was a very brilliant talk.

21. Only people with absolute lifetime (job) security can still laugh.
That means federal judges or the uber rich. Anyone who depends on the US economy and/or a salary - like all those faux journalists at the dinner are too worried to laugh.

8. This should have been a roast, the difference was everything
Colbert said was the truth. Pathetic as it may be, every word was the truth. Bush should be ashamed of himself. He's not an American. He doesn't have American values.

What he truly is, I don't know. Maybe Nazi. Perhaps Communist. Likely fascist.

He needs to be impeached.

15. I'd like to point out that this is the only photo of bush's reaction
it's the only photo i could find of bush's reaction and we all saw the many photogs in front of the podium. and i noticed the c-span video cut to bush occasionally in the beginning of Colbert's speech and then they just stopped.
