I think that there was a war protest yesterday
But M$M is hiding the fact that these protests occurred AND Steven Colbert cracked some funnies 'bout da chimp.

This is a great failure of m$m. The great failure of the left is that we are not discussing the war, the protest, or m$m grip on all media. Even here at DU, where we are the media, we are able to forget those who took it to the streets yesterday for obsessive discussion of a comedy skit. I find this terribly interesting.

(full disclaimer: I don't have electricity right now, so I didn't see Colbert and da Chimp. cue Beck - da da da daaa da da dum <-loser baby!)

:shrug:keep fighting the fight DU:patriot:

2. over 300000, and colbert didn't crack funnies about bush
what colbert did was expose the lies of bush, and expose the MSM for what they really are

Colbert's apperance was NOT funny, it was serious, and the audience knew it

17. I hope you can catch it on CSPAN
It exposed most of the media for what they have done. There were NOT very many happy faces that I could see in the audience

4. For all that it's worth, all 4 network stations in NY had coverage..
quoting 10s of 1,000s protesters (I heard it was 300,000). All peaceful, no one arrested. It is also on the homepage of AOL.

11. i was there with at least 100,000 others
it's insane - just searched and found only two stories. yahoo news has ONE photo. these others are from cbs news. WTF? THAT's the coverage we get? I stood on a corner with my candidate for TWO HOURS while the crowds marched by. dense crowds. i can't do the math on that but it had to be at least 100,000. UFPJ says 350,000. the police refuse to estimate. give me a break.

12. Military expert Ben Stein was on CBS News this morning
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 09:21 AM by tabasco
defending Rumsfeld.

No discussion of the war protest. Maybe I missed it.

On edit: And I shit you not! CBS News did cover the Cowchip Throwing Competition in Beaverton, Oregon. So that explains why no covergae of the war protest. More vital social issues and stuff.

13. The Corporate Media (I will never call them "mainstream") did report it
The AP wire story was on every Corporate Media site yesterday, and today. Headlines varied.

"Tens of Thousands in New York March Against Iraq War"
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/30/nyregion/30protest.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

"Thousands March on Manhattan in Anti-War Protest"
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,193686,00.html

"Thousands in New York march against war"
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/04/29/war.protest.ap/index.html

We may not always get the coverage we want, but the story IS there.

20. Colbert said to bush 'I hold these people in contempt' (paraphrase)
which was his supposed qualification to be WH press secretary!-the 'media' not to mention geebush, was startled by the underlying truth of the jest. It's too bad you haven't seen it, but Colbert may well have made 400k crowds small time in the future; the worm is turning!
Truly, the gopig 'coup' was not a gentlemanly affair, it was the act of desperate murderers and conman/thugs, who WILL BE exposed, not to us, but to their own supporters, who are the ones who will tear the gopigs apart. As Carl Bernstein notes in his 'Vanity Fair' piece it was the rightwing who destroyed Nixon, and even as they were turning, there were punks like buchanan and bob dole (notice dole's in hiding now - alot of nazipoohs are in hiding!) and safire etc defending him....same with now. Limbah-humbug, coultergeist, John gibson, brite hum, Friedman, tweet mathews, bob schieffer, john fund, glen beck, imus and a plague of other locusts are attacking the land in support of bush, but.... The corrupt supreme court (which Colbert laid on last eve, repeating scalia's 'italian fuck you' gesture twice to him, to scalia's imtense embarrassment, and mentioning alito as if he was some kind of disease) them bush tapeworms are hyperventilating today, thinking about Colbert's appearance, whereas the demonstration just 'proves' to amerka we're a healthy democracy which is the only way the pigmedia is going to mention it if it's mentioned in any context at all!
