Colbert at post-dinner party: "The president killed."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-04-30-bush-dinner_x.htm

At the Bloomberg News post-show party, with guests including Desperate Housewives star James Denton, ER's Maura Tierney, Terence Howard, Ron Silver and others, Colbert was almost the last person to arrive. He seemed pleased with his performance.

"I had a great time. The president killed. He's a tough act to follow — at all times. It'll be a tough for whoever comes in

The president killed.
The president killed.
The president killed.

Is he never out of character??

1. He's an American hero. Someone who figured out how to get a
national audience and tell the truth.

2. That was exactly his plan - and he did it well
He was more of a prophet than an entertainer and I think that was the goal.

5. His performance last night reminds me of the
child who truthfully states "The Emperor has No Clothes!"
And the crowd there did not care for it. They still want to see bush as being clothed.

6. The emperor is still clothed, and is currently being dressed as
"Comedian-in-Chief" I posted this earlier.

The 'morning after' response to Colbert's brilliantly satirical performance: MSNBC has shown B* entire skit with the impersonator, and they're referring to him as 'Comedian-in-Chief' and yukking it up much like they did with the WMD 'hunt.' It's revolting. So far, not a word about Colbet, so the emperor is still fully clothed for a good bit of Amurikans.

You know how many people are downloading that thing right now to put on blogs and Websites?

Give it a couple weeks. Even family members who never pay attention to C-Span are going to have links sent to them, CDs handed to them, and have this thrown at them.

The internet will once again prove its worth in getting out the info that needs to be out there.

13. I agree the bloggers will be the media for this one
So why is USA Today, et al. attacking the Loose Change movie, saying the bloggers are talking this one up and even attending showings of the movie throughout the country. Why are they
attacking it, if bloggers didn't matter. It does matter, I have the Loose Change movie, I think
it is well done, there is some mistakes but on the whole it tries to present the facts well.
So why the attack? Because what the bloggers say spreads, and this administration survives
on secrecy and spinning the truth.

of americans at this point in time.

27. IMO, it'll backfire alright
I think they are trying to elicit an sympathic response (poor dumbya ), instead I think that it will reinforce how imperilled we are with DimSon at the helm.

23. Colbert wasn't always looking for a laugh
He was trying to get people to think, and he used the pregnant pauses to his advantage.

Masterful.

14. The president killed
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 11:34 AM by Jack Rabbit
Isn't to kill a transitive verb? It requires a direct object, does it not?

So let's supply one. Here are a few suggestions:
  • 2400 US troops.
  • about 100 thousand Iraqis.
  • the Bill of Rights.
  • Constitutional checks and balances.
  • the rule of law.
  • American democracy.

EDIT: that was actually the best summary article I've seen in the M$M. lots of good quotes, and it actually mentions the skewering of the 'hoes

''Wow. George W. Bush. To be this close to the man. I feel as if I'm dreaming. Somebody pinch me. You know what? I'm a pretty sound sleeper. That may not be enough. Somebody shoot me in the face."

18. who's this guy? don't know, but I like him
Isaiah Washington, who plays Dr. Burke on Grey's Anatomy, thought Bush and Colbert "hit a home run."

Finding a relatively quiet spot away from the thumping music in the jam-packed party, Washington said of Colbert: "The politics got really intense. The truth was very apparent but very humorous, very pointed. I had a great time watching him. I had no idea who the hell Stephen Colbert was. I work 18, 19 hours a day, so I don't get a chance to watch a lot of leisurely television, but I'm a fan now
