A 21-year-old Georgia Tech student and a 19-year-old Roswell man traveled together to Canada last year to meet with "like-minded Islamic extremists" and plot locations for possible terror attacks, according to a federal arrest warrant released today.
The affidavit for the arrest of Ehsanul Islam Sadequee accuses him of making false statements to law enforcement officers and details the alleged trip to Canada with Syed Haris Ahmed, a Tech student who has been charged with giving "material support" to a terrorist organization.
Ahmed, a Pakistani native who is a U.S. citizen, has been held in federal custody since March 23. His family lives in Dawsonville. Sadequee, who was born in Fairfax, Virginia, and is a U.S. citizen, was arrested this week in Bangladesh, where his family said he had gone to get married.
The federal affidavit, filed in U.S District Court for the Eastern District of New York, states that Sadequee lied to federal agents in August when he was questioned at Kennedy International Airport. Authorities say that Sadequee told them he traveled to Canada alone and stayed with an aunt there.
However, Ahmed, who had been under federal surveillance since March 2005, told authorities that he traveled with Sadequee to Canada and stayed with another unnamed co-conspirator, court papers said.
