What's your favorite straw man?

I've been thinking about straw men a lot lately, as I seem to hear them more and more in the media, in the speech of my friends, and from the mouths of politicians. "Some people" are saying just about everything these days, it seems.

I'd like to know what your favorite straw man is, or the one that most impresses you, as well as why it is notable, be it the straw man's danger, absurdity, cravenness, or brazenness, whom you heard it from, and how it was used.

1. Anything that starts "Democrats say..." because you know you're

about to be confronted by a huge pile of steaming horse shit, a pack of lies by right wing pundits that are so egregious that most psychopaths wouldn't touch them.

It's usually done after a token Democrat has been whisked off the set and the right wingers are sitting around doing damage control.

6. "Which Democrat said that?" Usually starts them dodging

And then they try to pin it on Kennedy, Kerry, or Clinton.

2. "They" are willing to do work "Americans" won't do

Which Americans? Which jobs? Who are they?

Is is "work Americans won't do" or is it for wages Americans won't work for?

I hate this one.

7. I like the strawman's pal, myself--the "Oh, shit, I got nuthin'" arguments

They usually start out with "Well CLINTON..." and finish up with something that has nothing to do with the argument.

Bush started an illegal war? Well, CLINTON got a BLOW JOB!!!

Bush has put our grandchildren in debt forever? Well, CLINTON got a blow job!!!


You get the idea....


The problem is, you hear the phrase "blow job" often enough, and it loses all drama. One might as well say "Well CLINTON let his TIME subscription expire!"
