Drinking Beer while the rain poured in New Orleans this morning
Went to the Bubba Gump 5k on Decatur Street (to cheer the wife on). Heavy rains as the race started at 0830 and the Bud taps were open to all. Drinking beer out in the street at 0900 on Sunday Morning in New Orleans is a religious thing. After the race, Bubba Gump served Shrimp Pasta and Salad, and more beer, and the weather turned great. Wonderful day in the quarter, with Jazzfest goers and the Golf Tourney in town and the buzz of the Saints pick of Reggie Bush in the draft and more ice cold beer at the Tropical Isle. Just a touch of normalcy, just a touch. On the way out of town we picked up a Muffaletta for dinner tonight. Supporting New Orleans one tacky t-shirt and beer and souvenir at a time.

1. I love the 2nd shirt
and I make t-shirts for a living, so I'm pretty jaded but that's a good one.

3. A couple others
- Katrina and Rita, Party Girls

- Katrina hit New Orleans and all I got was this t-shirt. And a cadillac and a plasma TV (I suspect a tribute to looters.)

- Katrina gave me the best blow job ever

- And one of local interest
MEET THE FOCKERS (with a picture of Mayor Nagin, Governor Blanco, Michael Brown and Aaron Broussard (local politician).) Those buckeroos were in the dog house back in September/October.

- Buy me another Beer, you're still ugly

- I got Bourbon Faced on Shit Street

I truly love my trips to the quarter.

5. I have to share two more I remembered
- Times flies when you're having rum

- Beauty is in the eyes of the beerholder

Enjoy!

6. Welcome Doctorj and thank you
We get to NOLA as often as possible. We live 50 miles northeast just across the line in Mississippi. My political contingency is onboard with New Orleans plight although some of the "locals" in MS whine about the attention NOLA gets. She gets attention but not all the booty from DC. I am totally sincere when I say the pleasure is all mine if I can do anything at all to aid and assist New Orleans. My wife and I did some house cleanup work in New Orleans East. What a heartbreaking endeavor.

7. Thanks Boss
My mom actually lives two blocks off the beach in Pass Christian, MS. I think the MS. vs. LA thing is a lot of heat over nothing. Nothing is happening either place except debris pick up. If it wasn't for volunteers like you I don't know what I would think about America. Thanks again for all you are doing. Now go get another beer. LOL!

10. Pass Christian
was/is a beautiful little town. I recall a 5k there a few years back where the "trophies" were live plants. Yeah, the LA v MS feud is absolutely about nothing. I'm a Mississipian but I don't have too much sympathy for this state in that fight because MS has alot more political power in DC than LA does. New Orleans is just naturally a greater news and interest story. I hope all is well with your Mother.

8. I was amazed that Brian Williams reported on emails he
has been receiving about his reporting on New Orleans. He explained that most emails were favorable about his weekly (sometimes twice or thrice weekly) reporting about conditions in N.O., but he read some that said...Katrina and N.O. are not news anymore, report on real news....those people need to get a life and quit expecting the country to help with everything (that one made me cry)....enough of N.O. already, the country is sick of it. He read some of the meanest emails on the air and looked just as sick as I felt..at the hate in this country. It never ceases to surprise me.

But, he has kept his promise to LA to keep us in the spotlight....the only big-wig that has kept his promise so far.

9. I really appreciate Brian Williams
I emailed him and thanked him for his efforts. If the New Orleans cleanup isn't news I don't know what is. If another hurricane hits and the Mississippi River is clogged up for months they'll be intense whining from coast to coast. I switched from CBS to NBC nightly news after the hurricane.
