The Corporate Media, both print and air, are busily positioning
themselves as totally irrelevant. They are not so much making asses of themselves, as dinosaurs. They had all better be praying that the free Internet gets suppressed, because they will not be able to survive the competition of a free and unfettered Blogosphere.

And now that I think about it, just about everything I said about the press is also true of the mainstream Dummycratic Party.

Yes, this is partly another goddam Colbert thread. It is also partly a thread about the non-coverage of yesterday's antiwar protests. We had 100 people out on the streets for 2 hours on the main intersection of a small Wisconsin town, 1 block from the local TV station, & it wasn't a big enough story for them to send out a flunky with a camera.

2. I think you are on to something here...
They have their heads up their asses and they don't see what's happening right in front of their noses.
I think Internet is much more influential now than when Howard Dean ran for President. Just the other day everyone seemed surprised that Glen Greenwald's book was rated #1 on Amazon book sales. Something is happening and I'm hoping they keep their eyes closed right thru the next election. It will be fun to watch them scratching their heads after election, wondering what happened??

7. Had the same question, checked the user's profile. That is a
good crowd for that area.

5. I agree wholeheartedly
...after all this time, people still hope the corporate media will change. Everyday, the outraged bemoan the likes of 'tweety', 'wolf', and the rest...but they still continue to watch. It is not corporate media that has to change..it is 'we'. Arguing an alternate reality, does nothing to kick the can further down the street...at best it's an exercise in sideways, that saps energy, raises blood pressure, and disrupts any chance of linear thinking. In order to assert the power we as individuals have we need to start by making smarter choices.

8. 100 people standing in the street vs ONE person who thinks he can get away
Edited on Sun Apr-30-06 06:08 PM by SoCalDem
from a cop.. I think most people would watch the "car chase", and the media would happily oblige them by showing it wall to wall.

Why?...because deep down, some of the viewers will root for the guy to get away and the some will secretly hope that somebody gets shot...Most probably "hope" there will be some "cool" car crashes along the way..

It's the "reality/unexpected" that draws people in.

A hundred people peacefully gathering to show their displeasure at something, is not something that most people would watch. the people who are truly interested in the cause will BE there, and the ones who are not interested, will be watching re-runs of "The Avengers" or golf or something else.
