Congressman Tom DeLay will be facing a 'political fight' in order to retain his House seat, according to a story set for Thursday's edition of The New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.
In an article slated for the front page, Rick Lyman reports that some give DeLay a "less than even chance of remaining in Congress" due to his ongoing legal travails involving money laundering and conspiracy charges, as well as connections to the Abramoff lobbying scandal.
Ironically, Lyman notes that "should DeLay lose, it could be linked to the very congressional redistricting scheme that he spearheaded. In an attempt to win more Republican seats in Texas, the districts were redrawn in a way that shifted six Democratic seats to the GOP at the cost of adding more Democratic voters to several Republican districts, including DeLay's."
But Lyman also writes that Republican leaders in Texas' 22nd congressional district "play down the chance" that the former House Majority Leader "could be defeated in a district that remains predominantly Republican."
