This past week has been a reminder of what we democrats have been notoriously famous for, and that is eating our own. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. There have been a lot of bruised egos floating around here of late. Are we, or are we not all on the same side of the political aisle? But this episode serves to demonstrate why democrats keep getting steamrolled, even when a sitting president, with a rubber stamp republican congress has a 29 percent approval rating. One word pretty much sums it all up: PATHETIC.
You know that the repubs are desperate when they work really hard to make political hay from the Leopold story.
Frankly, I don't care if certain progressive writers get their nose bent out of joint because we dare to question a writer's sources. Everyone here should know that politics is a full contact sport, so to speak, and noses do get bloodied. Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Anyone here who posts threads, or issues their remarks are subject to a berating from time to time. It certainly has happened to me, and I'm still standing, offering my thoughts, when I feel it's appropriate. Our opinions and our passions run strong, and we tend to become entrenched, which, sometimes is not a good thing. But we are human. And, the bottom line is that we are all working toward a Democratic victory in both houses this fall, as well as overturning the most corrupt administration this country has ever seen.
To Will Pitt I say, "Stick your ego in a closet. I do not believe you have the right to expect lockstep loyalty and trust from your readers." You are a most valuable member of our community, and I sincerely hope we do not lose your input. Anyone who doesn't recognize your contributions and value to us and the progressive movement is a fool. Ours would be a sad loss. But, having said that, I would hope that you can place your professionalism and purpose ahead of your bruised pride. Me? I have lived long enough to realize that the only people in this world that I have given complete trust and loyalty to have been my parents and my wife. Everyone else has let me down at some time or another. Skepticism toward journalists and politicians is a natural and healthy thing for me, and has served well to make me a better informed democrat.
And Jason Leopold? I don't know if he was set up, had bad sources, good sources, or whatever. Truthout and Leopold may well be right as rain on this one. But, looking at the situation from many of our standpoints, you have to be able to understand why many here have been skeptical. I personally haven't meant to make it any type of personal attack. I just want accurate reporting of the truth, and will always demand it. The public sort of views journalists like baseball pitchers; they are only as good as their last outing. Unfair, but basically true.
This bickering about who is loyal, who isn't loyal, who is right or wrong has simply got to go. We can offer our opinions, but we should stop choosing sides and creating unnecessary feuds, like we were the Hatfields and McCoys. It's just silly. The only thing that really matters in this whole mess is that stories that are reported are based on factual information, and that those within the government, who are being investigated for wrongdoing recieve proper justice.
So, forget ego's forget, apologies and let's stay focused. We have a lot to do, and a long way to go.
