The Republicans only feel this big 'threat' in election season, ever notice? You have to hand it to gays and lesbians, waiting in the shadows, ready to POUNCE on marriage every two years! ATTACK!!! ATTACK BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!!

1. Because it's a wedge issue and divides people.
Republicans don't really believe marriage is under attack, but their faithful followers get all hyped up over it because THEY have deep seeded fears about homosexuality. It's like hitting a bees nest with a stick.

4. Because that is literally all the republicans have left in their arsenal.
Wedge issues, nothing new. Expect to hear more talk of a flag burning amendment and something "For the children"

6. Because:
They can't run on the economy 'cause nobody is buying that load of fetid dingo's kidneys.

They can't run on making us safe after the Kartina fiasco.

They can't run on a strong defense after destroying the military.

They can't run on smaller government after growing the size of government.

They can't run on fiscal responsibility with the largest deficit in history.

They can't run on anything but hate.

7. To put it another way: if it's such a national emergency...
...then why is nothing done about it in odd-numbered years? :eyes:

"Repuke propaganda"? What else do the bastards have to campaign on? The continued disaster in Iraq? The sky high price of oil? Government spying on Americans? The insane efforts of the Administration to start another war in Iran? Export of American jobs and industry overseas? Millions of Americans with little or no health insurance? All they have is their usual, ignorant ass B.S. rhetoric about "them Demmycrats gonna git yer guns, an' let them thar funny folk git married" - and the dumb ass American public will fall for it and continue to get fucked over, as usual...and afterwards, Repuke politcians will return to cheating on their wives, screwing veterans and the working poor, and nursing their own fat investment portfolio.

10. Cuz GOP sure as hell can't run on what they've actually done
And they've got squat for answers to how to fix the messes they have made.

When irresponsible kids get caught, they tend to point at some other issue and try to deflect scrutiny from themselves.

We are a nation run by irresponsible, sefl-centered, spoiled children.

11. And when we get a candidate that actually says that...
and doesn't try to play middle ground with the Falwellesque fools who will never vote Democratic anyhow, we will be on the road to winning.

12. I've got two stories about "traditional" marriages.
My wife is a minister/wedding planner and she was telling me about this couple that came in some time back. They wanted to get married but were in a hurry so they didn't want to be bothered with a ceremony. Basically sign the marriage license so they could get the hell out of there.
Want to know why? They were on their way to a couples fishing tournament but the only way you could enter...Is if you were married. :eyes:

Another time a different couple came in to be married; my wife told them that she would be their minister if they wish But the woman was apprehensive, saying it was against her morals to be married by a woman.
My wife told them that was no problem, that they did have a male minister on call but it would cost an extra $50 for him to make the trip in.

The woman decided my wife would do.

$50 can change your morals in a heartbeat! :P

13. Because they have nothing else to run on.
Edited on Thu May-18-06 03:38 PM by racaulk
What else are they going to use in their platform?

Iraq?

Gas prices?

The economy?

Disaster preparedness?

They have absolutely nothing else left to run on but fear. Fear keeps people loyal, so they bring out the bogeymen every two years to keep themselves in power. I expect to hear a lot more noise about abortion and gay marriage over the next few months, only to hear those crickets chirping on November 8.

18. 'Cause the churn of D-I-V-O-R-C-E is good for
corporations -- lawyers (who make campaign contributions), moving companies, apartment owners. Count on sympathetic relatives to pour some bucks into the fire too. It's the kids that get shafted with a trauma they carry through their lives and into their own relationships.
