Prison officer snatched girls off streets to rape
Prison officer snatched girls off streets to rape

May 20 2006
Western Mail

A SENIOR prison officer was yesterday told he may never be released from jail after he was given 12 life sentences for a series of rapes and attacks on women and young girls.

John David Hall raped women and tried to snatch the girls off the street while serving as a prison officer in charge of a wing of sex offenders, which included child killer Ian Huntley.

He was employed at various jails, including the high-security Wakefield Prison in Yorkshire.

Hall of Kirkhamgate, Wakefield, was jailed for life at Leeds Crown Court and told he must serve at least 12-and-a-half years before being considered for parole. Police described the twice- married 35-year-old as a "predatory paedophile and serial sex offender".

Hall was found guilty of raping the women at an earlier trial, which could not be reported for legal reasons, and admitted other sex offences yesterday.

1. This is the part I don't understand:
<snip>Hall was found guilty of raping the women at an earlier trial, which could not be reported for legal reasons...<snip>

And isn't it funny what 'life' means when referred to in prison sentences in this country and Britain. He gets twelve life sentences but has to serve twelve years before he can be considered for parole?
