Wes Clark's homage to his wife Gert on their 40th anniversary
Edited on Tue Jun-27-06 07:06 PM by RandomUser
I think this summer is their 40th anniversary. Here's what Wes just posted on his blog today:

I can just imagine him posting this with a big grin on his face. I love the little personal in-jokes sprinkled inside.

I wonder if the phrase "Let set alone for a year" refers to the engagement or to Vietnam. If I recall correctly, they were engaged but weren't allowed to marry because his Rhodes Scholarship requirement at Oxford stipulated that first-year students had to be bachelors. Or perhaps he's refering to the time he left her side to go to Vietnam.

I think it's great that the two of them are every bit as in love today as they were when they first met in NYC so many decades ago, when the army cadet Wes and his Westpoint classmates crashed a dance given by the Annapolis naval cadets. My favorite picture of the couple was one taken a couple of years ago of them where the two are dancing and Wes mischeviously kisses Gert as she smiles into the camera.

4. It's not perfect caligraphy, but knowing what I know about
Wes Clark, I would not be the least bit surprised if he wrote and sketched that himself.

7. That is adorable. I've seen variations of it with other military men, but
that one is pretty darn cute.

13. Ah yes, the cat that got the cream picture.
He does adore her.

Those two: a mutual admiration society.

I was talking to her after one of his speeches. It was a great speech about families and Democrats and real values. Anyway, Gert said, "Well, we were just talking about that at the table...(she waved her hand) and then he just got up and gave a speech about it!"

The General blogging for Gert.

BTW, she's every bit a quick as he is.

17. He does love her so much.
I remember during the primaries watching him address the crowd at a fundraiser and, as he spoke of Gert, his whole face changed...You could just see in his expression the love he has for Gert..Truly wonderful to behold..And very very sweet.

19. I Saw Them Together A Few Times, And They Love Each Other Deeply
They would hold hands when they thought no one was looking, they would sneak little looks at each other that were actually private conversations, etc. This is a rare thing these days, whether you are a famous couple or not.

20. The phrase "Let set alone for a year"
is just part of the standard recipe, although for Wes and Gert it may have its own meaning. Here's a link to the complete recipe: http://www.sgtmoms.com/data/modules/pbm/rendered/recipe_for_a_military_wife.asp

1 1/2 cups Patience
1 lb. Adaptability
3/4 cup Tolerance
1 tsp. Courage
A Dash of Adventure
Combine above ingrdients: Add 2 tablespoons elbow grease. Let sit alone for one year. Marinate frequently with slaty tears. Pour off excess fat. Sprinkle lightly with money. "Knead" dough until payday. Season with international spices. Bake 20 years or until done.....Dedicated.....to military wives everywhere, who have waved "good-bye: more often than not, who have heated up more dinners than most wives cook, who have missed more anniversaries, birthdays, Christmases and Valentine's Days than they should have, and most important of all have welcomed their husbands home GLADLY.
