Remember the good ol' days before you ever heard of G.W. Bush?
I fondly recall those happy days before we accepted torture and greed and war as good things for America. Remember how naive and unprepared we were? Remember when the economy was sound, we got the deficit under control and had a surplus even?

Remember that good ol' Geneva Convention, and when we used to count votes? And nobody hated America, (except for a few disgruntled crazy people)? Remember when you could travel overseas with your head held high? Remember when the president made sense when he talked?

Remember when you weren't terrified of the future?

Boy, I miss the good ol' days, before I even knew there was such a jerk as G.W.

17. Yes, I certainly do
When Clinton was in office I didn't have to worry about my 404K nor my meds going through the roof. I spent most of my time listening to the assholes talking of how they hated Clinton for his lying to Congress over an affair with an intern. Yes, today many have converted to the Democratic way of thinking, but only after the * government made them personally hit hard times. To those who aided and abetted GWB I think you got exactly what you deserved if you lost all those possessions which were dear to you(job, house etc). Wallow a bit more in your self pity, it's good for you.

2. I remember the first time I watched a news segment about him.
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 09:54 AM by AndyA
I knew he was the Governor of Texas, but I didn't care much what went on down there. Bush was on The Today Show being interviewed by Matt Lauer. The interview was filmed on a bus that Bush was using to campaign around the country.

The arrogance was immediately obvious, so was the lack of intelligence. I thought to myself, "There is no way this idiot will ever be elected President."

Well, I still don't think he was elected (honestly) either time, and he has proven time and time again what an idiot he is.

It's too bad George H.W. and Barbara didn't practice better birth control, we'd all be much better off today.

I do look forward to the day when W's kingdom comes tumbling down around him. I think that will happen. He will be disgraced and marked for life as the liar, traitor, and evildoer that he is.

5. We all used to think that way about RAYgun, too.
Sad, how history repeats itself - only more so.

7. agreed!
And Bush the Elder.... and to think I thought those guys were evil and incompetent (incomevil? Evimpotent?) before Dumbya was let in to really lower the bar. Hell, he almost makes me miss G.H.W. Bush, and that really says something.

And for what it's worth, we've done all that stuff before (check out our history in Central and South America), but now they're a lot more open about it.

4. I remember when only evil countries spied on their citizens
or tortured their enemies.

Yes, even if someone was our sworn enemy, we understood that how we treat them is a reflection on us more so than on them.

Or at least that's what I learned in school. Maybe it was all bullshit even then.

8. I remember when Big Brother was viewed as unAmerican.
American was once the land of the free and the home of the brave. Now it's the land of the less free and the home of the scared.

'Give me liberty or give me death!' was before 'Take my liberty I'm scared to death!' is now.

11. I think what I miss most....
even more than .79 a gallon gas, is the belief that my vote was being counted and that we could trust the voting results.

12. Funny...the first impression I had of him was positive...
I remember that he was pretty gracious to Ann Richards after beating her in the gubernatorial election in Texas...

All downhill since then!

13. I reckon he was just being gracious just to avoid a fight --
mollify her so she wouldn't challenge and find out how he stole that election, too.

14. Could be...
I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to it frankly...I just remember the speech he gave and it seemed unusually gracious...

Obviously not a reflection of the real person!
