compromise with Iraqis on occupation forces being subject to Iraqi laws
Most Americans would be uncomfortable with our troops being subject to Iraqi justice, however much that might make the Iraqis feel better.

But we should do something in that direction to show some respect for their sovereignty and wishes.

Therefore, I propose that all armed private contractors, formerly called mercenaries, be subject to Iraqi law.

Any American soldier who witnesses a private contractor shooting or torturing or othewise abusing Iraqis should take that contractor into custody and deliver him to a local Iraqi police station. As a further gesture of goodwill, no intervention should be made by our government on their behalf.

Additionally, our troops should deliver any mercenaries that cross their paths to the Iraqis for questioning to insure that they have the proper respect for the people they are occupying.

This might sound extreme, but since the contractors aren't subject to the UCMJ, and won't be held accountable in any other way by the Bush administration, this is the only way to keep them in line.

Come to think of it, any members of the Bush administration that visit Iraq should get the same treatment, or at least be taken to the outskirts of Baghdad and forced to hitchike back to the Green Zone.
