NewsChannel 11
Lubbock, TX

7/26/06

The Velez family is coping with the loss of their second son. Family members were notified Tuesday that 22-year-old Andrew Velez was killed in action in Afghanistan. He is the brother of Freddy Velez who was killed in Iraq in 2004. Freddy was 23-years-old. Father, Roy Velez tells us it's faith, and knowing his boys are in a better place, that keeps him going.

1. replace with "Barb" and "Jenna"
and we'd see that f*cking monkey depart from his cue cards and TelePrompter.

2. Beyond sad, and here's the repugnant p.s.:
"After his death, Jose Velez was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and a Silver Star. But burglars stole them all from his parents' home in June."

6. Okay... NEW MISSION... how do we get these medals back for his parents?
I'm totally serious.
This is going to be a plan.
Everybody put your thinking caps on!

I'm outraged. What complete f-ing idiot would steal a dead soldier's medals from the parents' home?

p.s. I'm also beyond outraged at their deaths. I feel absolutely helpless about these mounting deaths and feel as if I can't do a damn thing about this stupid hamster wheel we're on in Iraq. BUT... maybe somebody could actually get the medals back. Small, but something. UGH!!!

5. What are we going to do about this?
How will we end this? There are so many unjust, unnecessary and unfair circumstances that it's starting to effect all of our spirits.

It's feels hopeless to me today.

10. We are going to at least vote these worthless republicans out
Maybe the voting is rigged. So what? Its not as if vote rigging hasn't been around in the history of the US. We must show up and vote. Its the only thing that makes these crazy bastards sit up and take notice. Large numbers fo people coming to vote. We need to crowd those voting sites.

We are going to quit utilizing big business as our source of fulfilling as many needs as we can. Forget the Walmart's, the Home Depo's and the Target's. Shop small, shop local. Use the almighty buck to register your dissatisfaction with the stranglehold big business has on us.

We are going to cut back on our energy needs as much as possible. Watch the lights, drive less in any way you can, use mass transit if its available. This government has declared war on average Americans. Hit them where it hurts.

We are going to continue to fault the media for its imperialist newsmaking. Drop those subscriptions. Write, blog and speak about the misuse of the airwaves that bring us a choice between 'Bambi' news or the stuff of serial killer nightmares. TURN OFF THE TV's.

We are going to leverage out power from the bottom up. Student councils, boards of education, township boards, library boards....

We are going to support the candidates we value, not the global parties that promise to build a bridge and construct yet another fence in the face of much needed democracy.

We are going to refuse to participate in a global economic package that rests on the primary principls of overspend, ignore, and hype. Pay off those personal loans, throw out the spam, quit buying meaningless junk to make ourselves feel better, stop overindulging our kids, make our own food and MAKE DO with what we have.

Everyday there are things we can do. Think longitude, not latitude.

20. :) Motto for Americans
Don't give up on what you believe in. You wouldn't give up on someone you love and believe in and you don't give up on the country you love and believe in. It's just harder during some periods than others.

16. "I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do..."
"...And I want to remember it, I never want to forget. And then I realized--like I was shot...like I was shot with a diamond...a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought, "My God, the genius of that, the genius, the will to do that." Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they could stand that--these were not monsters, these were men, trained cadres, these men who fought with their hearts, who have families, who have children, who are filled with love--that they had this strength, the strength. To do that. If I had ten divisions of those men, then our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral and at the same time were able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling, without passion, without judgment--without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us."

Marlon Brando as Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, Apocalypse Now

No, sir, a better place is sitting beside you on a Saturday afternoon, watching the ball game on TV.

...but sitting in front of their TVs has gotten this country into the mess it's in. Less "bread and circuses," and more true education are what this country needs to rebound from the Bush disaster.

27. too bad people
have to resort to the "better place" thought.

I want my son to continue to be alive, and if he's not, lying in a chunk of dirt somewhere is not a better place. A better place would be by his parents side. Living. Loving. Sharing.
