Rice Abandons Middle East Negotiations

By Robin Wright
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, July 30, 2006; 10:22 AM

JERUSALEM, July 30 -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was forced to cancel a trip to Beirut Sunday after an Israeli airstrike killed more than 50 people, mostly women and children, in the southern Lebanese town of Qana in the bloodiest attack since the hostilities began between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah militia. But she did not call for an immediate ceasefire.

Rice will abandon her Middle East negotiations at least temporarily to return to Washington Monday, U.S. officials said Sunday. Rice will shift her diplomatic efforts to the United Nations, aides say. The U.N. Security Council is planning an emergency session this morning.

2. "Abandon her Middle East negotations"?
Doesn't "negotiation" involve talking to someone from whom you want something?

7. Condi, those children died in Qana
because you thought calling for a cease fire was just a " temporary solution". May you never have another nights peaceful sleep. May this haunt you until your death. May you never play another piece on the piano without being tormented by their voices calling you a murderer. Like Lady Macbeth, the blood will never wash out.

17. You are so right...
Due to her blatant incompetence and blind allegiance to a nitwit, people are being massacred.
It's all on her.

24. True. But I'm sure she's say that they were told to leave... read on
Did we learn nothing from Katrina? It takes more than just an order to leave. People need means, a car, gas, money, and in this case, a road that's not being bombed!

If I were the Lebanese Prime Minister I would tell her to go fuck herself, maybe in LESS diplomat terms.

Maybe if she had been doing her homework before the crisis... Maybe if she had responded to the crisis immediately...

Bush is biting his lip about now. Condi's probably told him (across the pillow), "Poopsie, remember not to say I'm doing a heckuva job. OK?"

16. Maybe these people are afraid to become the anti-christ?
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 11:30 AM by mogster
I know this sounds like moonshine, but try to see this from an extremist point of view.

If you believe in the end times by deferring to the hell-fire fraction of Christianity, your role as US president in 2006 will at least be considered in the religious context, seen from Bush' point of view. I don't pretend to know what this cabal of useless people are thinking, but wether we like it or not; to negotiate a peace in the Middle East must be a pretty tough pill to swallow for anybody believing that role is intended for the anti-christ.

And even if you didn't believe it, a Middle East peace would fly in the face of the remains of your voter base, now reduced to evangelicals only, which keeps track on the Middle East like we keep track of the egg clock; the rapture timer. They for sure won't like seeing a new US president halt the rapture by sponsoring peace. Here's the number 30 on the rapture index:

30 The Peace Process:
Arab League chief: Peace process 'dead'

Thank you, big Arab Chief. The big Israeli Chief is doing his best to keep it that way. The big US chief seems to agree.

Bush isn't likely to put his balls into hot water for any peace process. Wether he's rational or not, no one really knows.
