Conservative Mag: GOP Fracturing Under Bush....
Via Huffington Post:

GOP's conservative and liberal wings at war heading into ‘06 campaign

President Bush has been trying to maintain a united Republican Party amid flagging conservative support and a split with the GOP’s liberal wing.

The two wings are so far apart that party strategists no longer envision a united front for the November congressional elections. The strategists said many of the liberals, already alienated from the White House, have been campaigning as opponents of the president in an effort to win re-election as part of an expected Democratic Party sweep of Congress.

''I think we've lost our way,'' said Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican and possible presidential contender in 2008. ''And I think the Republicans are going to be in some jeopardy for that and will be held accountable.''

The key leaders of the GOP’s liberal wing have been Mr. Hagel and Rep. Christopher Shays of Connecticut. Mr. Shays, who faces a tough Democrat challenge for re-election, has told supporters that he would become one of the most powerful members of Congress should the Democrats win.

cont'd...

2. There's no such thing as a "Liberal Republicker."
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 03:45 PM by IanDB1
A Republicker's idea of "Liberal" is that black people don't have to sit in the back of the bus, but they don't get to vote, either.

There are no Liberals in the Republick Party.

3. "GOP's liberal wing"?
There is no such thing. Some of these repubs may disagree with bush, although it seems convenient to do so in an election year, but that damn sure doesn't make them Liberal.

5. After trashing the term for 20 years they'd like us to believe they have
a "Liberal" wing now? Trying to catch that pendulum swing back, perhaps?

Good luck with that.

7. Liberal Republicans believe gays should have equal access to the closet
If the Republickers can keep their mistresses secret from their families for years, then it should be good enough for the gays.

8. There hasn't been a bona fide "liberal wing" of the GOP
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 03:57 PM by Ignacio Upton
in at least a generation. The Liberal Republicans like Lowell Weicker have either become Independents or Democrats, just as how the old conservative Dixiecrats became Republicans.

11. Uh...now Paleo Repugs are GOP’s liberal wing?
Sure, Paleo Repugs are not pleased with the "new RW" because this "new RW" faction is comprised of Corpos (Fascists) and Xtian Zealots (Theocrats). The Moderate Repugs have been marginalized because they are the "old" Conservatives that still cling the concepts of small gov., fiscal responsibility and enviro conservation.

14. the growing split is among Republican voters..
Edited on Tue Aug-29-06 05:00 PM by flaminbats
among older Republicans who refuse to question the Bush administration, and younger Republicans who now oppose this war in Iraq with the insane ideology of the religious right. If the older Republicans had to pay higher taxes to fund this war in Iraq, I have a feeling they would be opposing this war as well! But more of the younger Republicans are earning less, have no health coverage, and are serving or have friends who have served in Iraq. Older Republicans now have higher incomes, adequate health coverage, and the least to lose from this war in Iraq.

15. just more propaganda from the GOP
the movement now is to run from Bush's unpopularity.

So they say that conservatism and Republicanism have been hijacked by radicals like Bush, who support Big Government and Big Spending (read as: liberals).

And its effective.

They even have liberal Democrats, even on this board, pining for "true conservatives", as though conservative, although corrupted now, was once something noble and pure.

Its bullshit.

The entire Conservative ideology is corrupt, lets not forget that.
