Perry wants a special election for the two months that will be left on Tom Delay's term. This is undoubtably to get the Republican write in challenger's name on the ballot, and also to potentially confuse voters.
What does it take to be a candidate for this special election?
If the requirements are just a few signatures, I would suggest that Lampson not run for the unexpired term, and that the Democrats run as many candidates for it as possible. Think of the perks... the house won't be in session much, you could tell your grandkids you were in Congress. You will have very nice healthcare for a couple of months to schedule some needed surgery, there may also be perks for ex-congressmen....
I would flood that ballot with names if I were them. What happens if no one gets 50% of the vote?
I posted this idea buried in another thread, but I think it is worthy of consideration for the poor people in Delay's old district.
