Bill O'Reilly Booed At Agassi Match



Last night we had the option of one of the two most sought after tickets in town: one being to the MTV Video Music Awards' return to New York, the other to what turned out to be one of the most thrilling, epic tennis matches in U.S. Open history: Andre Agassi's five-set, four-hour rollercoaster win over 21-year-old Marcos Baghdatis at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, Queens.

We chose tennis — rock-n-roll tennis.

It was about as loud and raucous as a tennis stadium crowd gets, but oddly enough, one of the loudest moments of the match wasn't a response to Baghdatis' on-court antics; rather, it was during a changeover, when Fox News' Bill O'Reilly was shown on the jumbotron high above Arthur Ashe Stadium — and was booed by, oh, 23,700 tennis fans.

To which O'Reilly grinned, of course.

9. I saw the end of that match

Man, that was great. Out of nowhere, they switched to it. I was half-watching some lousy talk show and suddenly, BOOM. Tennis has been incredibly boring over the last few years, but this was GREAT.

It was riveting. I thought Agassi was going to take it in 3 sets but he started losing momentum. Was so cool to watch him regain control and win.

16. I wouldn't really say Agassi lost momentum

I think he was playing the same game most of the night. Whether you think that's good tennis or bad tennis is a different call, but I think the key to the 3rd and 4th sets was Baghdatis. He had been fairly inconsistent until about the middle of the 3rd set, after which he really turned it on and I think began to hit a lot harder, play more aggressively and most importantly, more consistently. That put the pressure on Agassi for the first time in the match, and suddenly everything changed.

I'm rooting for Agassi for two reasons. First of all, I rooted for Sampras against him all those years, and I feel like I owe Agassi :). And, obviously, because it's his last tournament. OTOH, I've been a minor fan of Baghdatis since last year, but now you can put me down firmly in his camp in the future. He played with his heart as well as his body (especially when his legs cramped up), played great, and was very gracious both to the crowd (like when they were doing the wave) and to Andre. Maybe Baghdatis will win it all next year. I'd be cool with that.

It won't be my last. I've always cheered for Agassi. But my heart belongs to Federer.

he's notoriously thin-skinned. He gets obsessed with those who push back. He had a spectacularily silly crusade against George Clooney. He came across like a pre-teen with a serious crush. He couldn't stop talking about the guy.
If you have the intestinal fortitude, watch his show. He gets very twitchy and red about any slight. His ego is a balloon always in danger of deflation.
Remember, this is the guy who put on-screen the photo and phone number of a publisher whose newspaper had published unflattering references to O'Reilly. So, ole Bill called out a fatwa on the guy, urging his listeners/viewers to write or call the newspaper.
Trouble is...the publisher was deceased, had been for years.
That's what happends in the No Fact Zone.
(I guess they don't have google in Bill's office. Five seconds and he could have saved himself more embarrassment.)

Between the cutting-edge school he opened in the worst part of town, or the Boys and Girls Club he funded next door, he has helped literaly THOUSNDS of children over the years.

He's funded to a large extent, among other things:

The only successful Charter School in town, now K-12
A Boys and Girls Club
The local magazine for high school journalism students
Child Haven, for victims of neglect and abuse
College Scholarships
After-school sports programs -- keeping kids off drugs, out of gangs, and in school
The Las Vegas chapter of the "I Have a Dream Foundation"
Las Vegas Philharmonic outreach to public schools
Various Summer Camps for underprivilged youth
New school clothes for homeless/poor kids
The YMCA of Southern Nevada

Playing tennis so well just makes him good at his job;
Giving so much to so many who need it, IMO, makes him truly GREAT.
