LTTE: Congress should reinstate DRAFT
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 11:36 AM by Dems Will Win
Another call for Bush to reistate the DRAFT, this time in an Alabama LTTE:

Congress should reinstate draft:

It's time for Congress to do the right thing and reinstate the draft.

It is unfair that we have to recycle our military troops who deserve time off from duty. Everyone needs a break. Civilian workers get vacations, and the president takes lots of time off from his hectic schedule.

Since Congress backed the president's call for this war, it needs to reinstate the draft. What or who are members of Congress afraid of that keeps them from doing this?

1. And as I said in another thread
A draft only feeds the war machine with hundreds of thousands more warm bodies for more wars. The absence of a draft and lack of troops is probably the only reason why we are not in Iran now.

And for those of you who think that a draft will ignite the anti-war movement again, I say big deal. OK, some young people will resist and protest, but hundreds of thousands more will simply march off to war because the government says they have to go. The American people are very child-like and will do what they are told to do.

Furthermore, the notion that you can devise a military draft with "no exceptions" for the George P. Bush's and Paris Hilton's of the world is just naive. They WILL find a way to evade service, I promise you.

4. To the point about igniting the anti-war movement:
There's an old saying, or it was said recently . . . "It's a funny thing about fishing; it never seems to work out so well for the bait."

8. We don't need a draft, we need to end the war in Iraq.
Pull our military out of senseless conflicts & redeploy them so we don't need a draft, or stop-losses, or lowering of standards.

3. I'm going to guess the writer of the LTTE has no children of draft age.
And I'm going to guess she's a good Republican as well.

I say reinstating the draft is a great idea! That's right. But to be fair about it, let's start with the children of Republicans who still believe that the war in Iraq was the right thing to do. After all, most Dems have never been behind the war, so let's let the people who have supported Bush and who voted for them send their children and spouses off to war FIRST. It's only fair.

That should take care of a lot of those foul mouthed Nazi Republicans you see in photos adoring Bush. Now they can adore him all they want, from the front line in Iraq. Or Afghanistan. Or Iran. Or...wherever Bush decides to send them.

5. Well the other thread's LTTE came from a military mom.
She had a son go back to Iraq for another tour with 9 weeks left on his enlistment contract (but they'll keep him for a year regardless). And she wants others to share her pain. Literally.

6. A draft will only, once again...
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 12:02 PM by misternormal
... make the poor and hungry the cannon-fodder of the * administration...

The wealthy and the powerful will NEVER allow their children to go to war, and fight to keep what they have gained... NEVER !!!

Did we all learn nothing from Viet Nam about the draft??? Most draftees come from places we all have never heard of, from the ranks of the poor...

But then again, what do they have to live for?... :sarcasm:

Only to be used again and again for the american dictators

7. A draft will not just feed the war machine, it will choke it.
I believe if a draft was instated with no exemptions for male or female, coupled with mandatory prison sentence of say 2 years with no statute of limitations for evaders. We would see and end to this, and all wars of choice in a matter of months. Combat MOS's and those that are assigned "in country" should be determined by open lottery to keep the process truly democratic. All those W stickers you see in areas like Palos Verde, and Laguna Nigel would disappear overnight. When the Jonah Goldberg's of this nation will have to put their, or their own children's boots where their mouths are, "the times will be a changing".
