I wonder how many animals have become extinct because men think it makes them more virile?

1. 5,000 is a genetically viable population size

if they are one species. If there are several species within that 5,000, it may not be.

That may be a problem, or it may not be. Large predators generally have smaller populations and less offspring anyway, but too small a population and a genetic bottleneck can occur, which can reduce genetic variability.
