My, how people change.

One of the most conservative people I have ever met intensely dislikes Bush*. (I doubt he would use the word "hate".) He doesn't like the war or the budget, and since he has lost his job and health insurance and been diagnosed with cancer, he isn't happy with Bush* putting Health Care on the back burner.

Sometimes, like the Princess of the College Pro-Life Committee who gets pregnant and needs an abortion, I wonder if just a little bit of a challenging situation makes people more compassionate and realistic about what Jesus said about helping those in need. Not that I would wish ill-will on so many of the conservatives I know (really, I don't because that would be wrong). Sometimes I think these hard-core cases are a little less dug-in after they've experienced a little more of a raw life. Really, sometimes I think the vast majority of GOPers are naive child-like people who haven't ventured further than mom's basement.

Or war mongerers. Yeah, some of them think they are so tough.

1. You're right.

My mother wasn't sympathetic to anybody's physical problems until she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Now she's unhappy with Bush and his smackdown of stem cell research - even though she voted for him - twice.

These repukes seem to think they're golden - 'God' takes care of them, whatever. But when they do experience hardship, all of a sudden they can see the other side.

I really hate it, and I don't understand it, because I've always been compassionate! Don't know where I got that!

2. God bless the poor man

they are many forms of cancer, some of which are more treatable than others with less expensive
procedures, I have a close friend who was treated with "chemo" only and recovered. Duke University in N.C. is treating Cancer with heat which makes the tumors accept more chemo
which kills them.

3. Yeah, I am hoping for his recovery as well.

And I hope his attitude stays "recovered" even if he can't bring himself to vote Dem. If he'd just stay away from the polls, it would be helpful.

4. I bought Andy a professional juicer

I got it refurbed on the internet for about 40 bucks, the juicer does what a healthy stomach
does; it breaks down the food; the problem is that many cancer patients don't get the nutrients
they need because the body is out of whack and can't break the stuff down. Also I am reading
more and more cancers related to processed foods: esp. processed meat. I really feel for anyone
that walks through cancer w/o insurance. I hope for the best for him. A conservative is
just someone who has always had a comfortable niche. He has little empathy for the have-nots
because they are as alien and as unfamiliar to him as the zebras running across the African
plain.

5. But you can wish for them to learn

compassion, can't you? No matter how they learn it.

6. it seems the only way they learn though,

is when they have to live it. To them it's so easy to denigerate a person due to homelessness, joblessness. They don't really understand how it feels to be at the edge everyday.
