1. Rabble Rouser, yes. Demagogue, No.
Dr. Laura is a straight up demogogue - she doesn't believe in any of that crap that she spews.

Most talk (libertarian/conservative/Republican) radio hosts are demogogues - they will say anything if they think it will make them more money / make their jobs more secure.

Before Rush, the vast majority of them were libertarians. Once they got the 'forumla" they converted over to Republican.

A few conservatives actually believe in what they say, but they are usually products of talk radio themselves.

2. Father Coughlin and Rush Limbaugh are demagogues
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 05:49 PM by Selatius
By virtue of the fact that their listening base is several times larger than Malloy's ever was. In 1930, Coughlin had upward of 45,000,000 people across America listening to his broadcasts, and he was quite influential in helping FDR win office in the 1932 elections at a time when the country appeared ready to fall to a coup by fascists in the chaos of the Great Depression. After, he turned against FDR and started consuming anti-semitic propaganda like The International Jew and the Jewish conspiracy to control the world.

The difference between the two? Father Coughlin blamed Jews for America's plight. Rush Limbaugh blames liberals instead.

speaking the truth be considered a demagogue?

If so, then maybe Mike could be considered a demagogue - although I think that would be stretching the definition of demagogue quite a bit.

8. Just plain...

Obviously his firing is the latest Rovean plot to distract us from fretting about the ABC docudrama about 9/11 which was itself a plot to distract us from the latest revelation in the Plame case which was itself a distraction fom the anniversary of Katrina.
