BAKERSFIELD - Three weeks after a Rosamond woman reported she had accidentally killed her son with a car, her boyfriend has been arrested in the case.

Greg Tyler, 26, was arrested on a murder charge Thursday. His mother, Mavis Watson, 39, was arrested as an accessory to murder and for alleged destruction of evidence.

Five-year-old Darion Wheat died Aug. 11 after his mother brought him from his Kern County home to a nearby Los Angeles County clinic.

The mother, Dionna Wheat, told Kern County Sheriff's Detectives she accidentally ran over the boy with her car.

From the beginning, doctors suspected the injuries were not caused by a car and just as quickly, family members said, suspicion fell on Tyler, who has a history of abuse.

There have been no charges filed against Dionna Wheat, but county social workers have taken her three other children into protective custody.
