I have been thinking about starting some meetups about bread and butter issues in about a month. I would like to start lobbying for some basic changes. Unfortunately, I am not feeling well and have one little piece of personal business to deal with so I will have to wait a little bit. But I have been thinking about starting a political action group to focus on basic issues that politicians dont seem to be dealing with. They used to be stuff that labor unions dealt with until labor unions went into their current tail spin.
These issues are:
1. Jobs for all. Make work jobs on infrastructure to get folks working immediately. A strategic national plan about where this country will be in fifty years and a series of short, medium and long term investments by the federal government to make it happen. These investments will identify areas where America will have a competitive advantage and we will invest in jobs that will not be outsourced. An end to down sizing. 40 hour week for all.
2. EEOC enforcement. No discrimination on race, color, gender, creed or age. It is a national embarassment what has been happening to the DOJ enforcement of EEOC. Additionally, there will be jobs for the younger workers -- real jobs with real futures.
3. ERA Now. Enough said. With the baby boom, there should be 50% female senior executives at every Fortune Five Hundred. Close the gap in women's pay at all levels. It's about time. We've been at this since 1960. What's the problem? Why is their a national denial?
4. National Health Care
5. National Pension Plan. We will not have large numbers of elderly in poverty because they have been downsized or right sized out of their retirement savings or because companies bungled/stole from their pension plans.
6. National Child Care ... so women can truly participate in the ERA.
7. Guarantee of 2 years community college for everyone. Guarantee of college prep for all.
8. Affordable college for all... College costs are out of hand.
9. Affordable housing. Mortgages should only cost no more than 25% of your income.
10. Decent elementary and high school for all. That way middle class people arent trying to cram into certain zip codes to get decent education for their kids.
That's it for now.
