I was watching one of the news shows last night (20/20, or maybe Primetime) and they were writing about all of the orphans that have been created by this war. They showed the orphanages and it broke my heart to see all of these innocents caught up in this war. They showed how the children were drawn to the adults doing the report and even showed one segment where the commentator said that one little girl begged him to take her home with him. Then he said that before you all start calling to try and adopt these children that foreign adoption of these children was not allowed. He did not go into detail and I was wondering why? Is this a policy of the new Iraqi government or is it a tenet of Islam not allowing Muslim children to be adopted out of the faith. He went on to say that these children were not likely to be adopted by Iraqi families and that they would, in many cases, have to become prostitutes in order to survive once they came of age. This seems so sad and so wrong.
