35. HE's AGNOSTIC, his stepfather is GAY!!!!!
No shit...that's it. http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/New_book_alleges_Rove_agnostic_stepfather_0902.html

A new book by Austin-based journalist James Moore and senior political reporter for the Dallas Morning News Wayne Slater to be released Tuesday will allege that Karl Rove's step-father, Louis Rove, divorced his mother and lived the rest of his adult life as an openly gay man, RAW STORY has learned.

This is one of many bombshells delivered by reporters James Moore and Wayne Slater in The Architect: Karl Rove and the Master Plan for Absolute Power. RAW STORY obtained an advance copy of the book.

There is much to digest in The Architect, but new details of Rove's family history, self-proclaimed agnosticism, and the political machine built by friends such as the scandalized lobbyist Jack Abramoff, are certain to raise the heckles of Rove's Republican base.

Citing on the record sources including close friends of the elder Rove, Moore and Slater reveal he lived openly as a gay man and remained close to his son throughout his life.

Karl grew up believing Rove was his natural father, learning the truth only after his parents divorce during his young adulthood. A New Yorker profile of Rove recounts their relationship:

Rove spoke of his adoptive father in a tone of fierce admiration, love, and loyalty, for, as he put it, “how selfless his love had been,” as shown by his willingness to play, persuasively, the part of a blood parent for two decades.
The Architect describes the relationship of Louis and his long time friend, Joseph Koons. "Joseph Koons had been living openly as a gay man throughout his adult life, but Louis Rove had only come out after he'd left his family in Salt Lake City and moved to Southern California," the authors write.....

31. Roves Word Is No Longer G.O.P. Gospel (NYT Today)
WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 Karl Rove, the presidents chief political adviser, is struggling to steer the Republican Party to victory this fall at a time when he appears to have the least political authority since he came to Washington, party officials said.

Mr. Rove remains a dominant adviser to President Bush, administration officials say. But outside the White House, as Mr. Bushs popularity has waned, and as questions have arisen among Republicans about the White Houses political acumen, the partys candidates are going their own way in this difficult election season far more than they have in any other campaign Mr. Rove has overseen.

Some are disregarding Mr. Roves advice, despite his reputation as the nations premier strategist. They are criticizing Mr. Bush or his policies. They are avoiding public events with the president and Mr. Rove.

It reads like a trashy tabloid rather than the good work that is typically presented at Raw Story.

And the lead up to the "developing" story certainly didn't help. I have been reading raw story for quite some time and this is a terrible disappointment.

49. sorry to have let you down...
i am not in charge of the front page and cannot control how the information is presented outside of my own work. that said, i have been sitting on this at the request of the authors for a month and i think it is damn important, not because of the gay element, but because of how sexual orientation was abused by people who want privacy in their own lives. not only that, i think Bush saying "Jews going to hell" is also news. And I think it is also news that Rove met with Abramoff on street corners. but again, I am sorry you see nothing of value here.

63. thanks... it always surprises me that
people think that writers have control over titles and that RS, which never reported that Rove was indicted, would suddenly be "here we go again" mode. i don't get it... are people unable to tell the difference between publications, writers, and such? do we need a list here to keep straight the six or seven publications we have left for news?

Raw Story
Alternet
TruthOut
MotherJones
Rolling Stone
Nation
American Prospect

79. Is the GOP trying to "reform" itself?
My suspicion has always been that, in order to win this year and especially in 2008, the GOP has to run against itself, as reformers of their own party.

Given that Dems haven't gotten much of a profile still with the voting public, its very likely the GOP can turn their chances around by distancing themselves from the Bush administration and running as "reform" candidates. The news media will be very obliging, as usual.

I'm skeptical, not doubting that all of this is true, but that its being done for a reason. To help the GOP in some way.

83. This book was not written for that reason, if I'm reading
the review correctly. No, these guys are writing about the ethos of the whole "W" outfit, going back to when he was the governor of Texas. I suspect the book will be very revealing, and I just might buy a copy. (I'm not one to go out and buy all of the political books.)

When the Chimp was running for president, Harper's published a long biographical article about "W" that I haven't forgotten. It contained a lot of information of what went down in Texas. This book sounds even more informative.

""You know what I'm gonna tell those Jews when I get to Israel, don't you Herman?" a then Governor George W. Bush allegedly asked a reporter for for the Austin American-Statesman.

When the journalist, Ken Herman, replied that he did not know, Bush delivered the punch line: "I'm telling 'em they're all going to hell."

This quip never made the wider media."

I expect to hear about something so important that even the propagandist media can't ignore it.

76. The teaser was annoying, but...

But the article seems to point to the GOP machine coming unhinged. The whitehouse must have seen the book, or why else would the NYT have written their article on Rove's star fading today? That is somehow important to me.

There are few coincidences in politics any more, and the fact that a story about Rove's influence being diminished appeared on the front page of the NYT today leads me to believe there is coordination between the WH and the MSM. I doubt the WH is throwing Rove under the bus, but can someone explain to me the timing of the NYT article and the Raw Story article about the book?

85. Th good news is the RS editors seem to have changed the article title
to include Abramoff, which I'd agree is much more important. I don't think anyone was having a go at you personally, lala - it was presumably the editors who came up with the teaser, and when they then used the headline 'Rove agnostic, stepfather gay', you'd presume that was the 'major exclusive'. Perhaps it was the criticism on sites like this that got the editors to re-examine the story and alter the headline. Or maybe you persuaded them yourself - in which case, well done.

77. Is is very coincidental that the Rove lost power story
and the news of this book came out the same day.

81. Looks orchestrated
Wonder if they're just "pruning the GOP tree"? I dunno. He's been traveling around with Mehlman and others lately, he's still very much involved in the GOP camapaigns right now.

84. He was just here in Ohio
with Ken Mehlman a week or so ago. They spent time in Toledo (where the Tom Noe - Coingate case is being tried) and here in Cleveland - filling the newspapers in on their media strategy for the next few months, probably.

If he disappears, he won't go far. He'll still be behind the scenes running things.

80. What this could do is drive a wedge between bush and his
theocratic followers. I could give a shit if Rove was raised by a gay man, or if he's an agnostic, but it could be very important to those who have nothing but hatred for gays and non Christians. They may even question his sexuality because they believe gay parents make their children gay.

88. Here is the video by the same name from 2004. Same authors?
Edited on Sat Sep-02-06 08:19 PM by madfloridian
I think the same authors, the same ones also as Bush's Brain.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/architect/

It has sections called The Mastermind, The Rise of the Republican Party, Texas, Harbinger of the Future.

Is this book a sequel?

There is also a movie that came out called Bush's Brain by the same authors as the new book announced today.

Here is the video section from PBS called The Mastermind.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/architect/rove/

I guess I meant to ask if this a series.
