Gov. Bill Richardson: Your thoughts?
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 12:32 AM by Superman Returns
If Richardson was to run for President in 2008, he would probably have the most experience out of any candidate: Governor, Cabinet Secretary, U.N. Ambassador and a host of other positions. He is also hispanic and can help gain this emerging demographic that largely consists of swing voters. In addition, Richardson is governor of a battleground state and can easily flip it blue and may even have an advantage in carrying other southwest border states.

That being said, I hear hardly anything about Richardson. Back during the 2004 election when his name was mentioned as a possible running mate, many on this board said he had certain skeletons in his closet. Also, some say that he is a DLC'er.

So, would you support this guy for President? Is he progressive enough? Any gripes? Just curious, because I never hear people on DU talk about this guy which is weird considering his resume is Presidential material.

edit: spelling

1. I don't know.
My overall view of him is vaguely favorable, but I really haven't heard all that much about him.

If he's considering running in 2008, he needs to get busy creating a national image, and putting his ideas and record into public consciousness.

2. DLC, which is an instant turnoff to me
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 12:36 AM by Bluebear
unfortunately...I'm sure he is a good man but I don't see him as a passionate guy.

"Governor Bill Richardson says that he would sign a bill defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman, but only if it had a civil union component that would protect same-sex couples." Hmm.

4. Two words: Los Alamos
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1093647,00.html

I remember that during this scandal he was criticized relentlessly for his involvement in it. If he can overcome Los Alamos, then he could be a strong dark-horse, or at the least on the VP shortlist.

6. Not a snowball's chance in Hell would I support this asshat
In case you aren't familiar, while DEMOCRATS were trying to verify the voting in New Mexico (and there were some flagrant errors)...he ordered the machines wiped.
There is only one reason anyone would have done that...because he knew they were wrong and he benefitted from it in some way.
He is no better than Lieberman.

10. Lee who was shackled and denied visitors while sitting in prison....
while a certain Richardson was busy covering his own ass.

Richardson wouldn't last in a presidential race but for a nanosecond.....and he knows it!

18. I've always thought he was smarmy
and I see quite a bit of him because I get a couple of news stations from Albuquerque. If I didn't know anything about him and saw one of his recent campaign ads, I'd assume he's a Republican.
