I mentioned to a RW friend at the bar tonight....
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 12:42 AM by JohnnyRingo
...That Monday, Labor Day, is the day I was hired by Delphi 34 years ago.
I've since retired so I felt guilty celebrating my blue collar heritage on Labor Day weekend, but I lamented that I started at just 6.30 an hour....

My friend mentioned the fact that was a lot of money back then.

I enjoyed pointing out that most Republicans think it's a lot of money now.

1. LOL! Although to be nitpicky, they don't really think it's a lot of money,
they just think it's more than enough for people other than them...

3. Let's also remember the "contract" workers who get
paltry salaries that amount to even less than minimum wage when actual hours worked are calculated. Like GTAs. Like me. I get paid for .75 full time but never really leave my job, and nobody really considers all the time it takes to make lesson plans, prepare for class, and do all the other paperwork and hand-holding that's necessary for teaching.

I also worked as a "contract worker" for the city of Scottsdale, AZ. I worked my ass off for $8.50/hr while people who did the EXACT SAME JOB but who were officially employed by the city earned $30,000-$35,000/year. Only I had to work harder because I didn't have a contract and was expendable. My job was ALWAYS in jeopardy.
