But seriously, there have been at least three #3 AQ leaders killed or captured during the past few years. I'm not sure whether they were #3 overall or just within a particular country. The one in the news today was #2 in Iraq, which must be pretty far from being #2 overall.

Bush2 & company seem to think that Al Qaeda doesn't ever recruit anyone new, so if they kill or capture a number of people who could be AQ that is equal or greater to the number of estimated AQ members, then they have another "Mission Accomplished" moment.

If Al-Qaida are organized in a cell structure with each individual cell reporting directly to the top then there could be as many number #2's as there are cells.

Arrest or kill an Al-Qaida Number #2 and you've simply arrested the leader of a small cell without having any direct affect on the real leadership.

What I've just surmised is conjecture, but the lack of any explanation in the media as to how there can be so many number #2's is pretty pathetic and makes the media and leadership look foolish.
