Let's see who might be on Jesus's mind this fine Sunday morning....
"Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 6:1

...I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24.

"I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them...." Matthew 5:44

"Do not judge, lest you too be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1 & 2.

"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just." Luke 14:13 &14.

"But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:15

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." Matthew 5: 9

"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'"-Matthew 25:41-45

"Love one another." John 15:12

1. Thank You
I have had a constant debate with friends at work who seem to be "Moses Christians" versus "Jesus Christians". They believe more in what the old testament says than what Jesus taught.

6. "Moses" Christians? Wouldn't they actually be strict "Mosians"?
BTW, the most war-mongering people at my job are the first to claim Jesus as a personal buddy.

7. The term is "Mosianists"
The "venegance is mine", "eye for an eye" and "kill all thine enemies, including their wives and children" extremists.

They have no right to call themselves "followers of Christ".

8. Thanks. I didn't know that theological designation existed. I just took a
wild guess.

I so agree, anyone who ascribes to only the First Testament should not be called, or label themselves, Christians. MKJ

10. Actually, I just made it up
But since the RWers insist on calling Muslims "Islamists" (as in "terrorists") we should call them what THEY really are - terrorists for Moses.

18. Didn't the Israelites follow Moses?
Wasn't Jesus a Jew? I don't understand, either, those who call themselves Christian, but whose ideologies are clearly based on the pre-Christ books of the Old Testament. Note also, these same people who follow the eye-for-an-eye theology fail to adhere to the diet prescribed in Leviticus. They think their holy book is a Burger King. They only want it their way.

14. Hi Nance, and thanks. Your influence is in this OP. You are always able
to connect your writings to the human condition and how we all treat each other. Plus, you have a keen sense for our so-called leaders' hypocrisy and shine bright lights into the dark corners of their rhetoric.

Thanks for your K & R, your writing elevates all of us. :hi: MKJ

They talk a lot about Jesus but they follow Ayn (as in MINE) Rand and Milton (I got Mine and Fuck You) Friedman.

15. hypocrites
If Jesus really was the son of a god and really had magic powers to come back to life like the superstitions say, he would be killed by Christians upon doing so.

17. a lot of Matthew...
he's my favorite too... of course the Beatitudes/Sermon on the Mount is worth the price of the whole show if you know what i'm saying. Really though, Matt is kinda the hippy disciple... some of the accounts from other "holy men" are not so well, christlike and peaceful. just my 2c.

This post is great. The last picture, the victims of both a hurricane and their government's indifference, is especially powerful. The whole thing really shows Republicans for what they are.

26. That was great,
and I always think of Matthew 24:41-45 when I think of these pious sham Christians, and think, who the hell do they think they are kidding with there 'hey I got mine, tough cookies for you all"

The Gospel this week at church was about being 'doers' of what Jesus asked, not just 'hearers'. I'd like to tell these folks to get off their high horse and get into the streets, with the Man. After all, He hung out with the sick, the homeless, the prostitutes, and all the fringe element.

33. I like Matthew 6:5 - 6:7
6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites : for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen : for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
