Rove's Vision Falling Apart As Mood Turns Against GOP - SJMercury News
Actually... Chicago tribune...

<snip>

WASHINGTON - Karl Rove had a grand vision as he crafted George W. Bush's first presidential campaign.

Republicans not only would capture the White House, but they also would realign American politics, creating an enduring majority that would rival President Franklin Roosevelt's accomplishment for Democrats 70 years earlier.

Now, though, as the congressional election season kicks off in earnest this Labor Day weekend, nobody is talking about realignment. Rather, Republicans concede they are struggling to cling to power.

Numerous political analysts are forecasting that a tidal wave of voter dissatisfaction will wash incumbent Republicans out of office on Nov. 7 and possibly hand control of the House back to Democrats, who also are poised to make gains in the Senate and win back governorships.

"The Republicans had a great run for a while, and it's over," said Charlie Cook, a nonpartisan analyst and founder of the Cook Political Report.

2. It's already begun. All next week, Fuck Snooze is running a series...
...on the upcoming election called "What's at Stake." It's not hard to imagine the propaganda and smears that Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes will be churning out for their willing audiences.

every one.. including republicans.. is tired of the republicans.
they've done nothing except mess shit up and cause a whole
lot of (our) money to disappear. Everyone's had it with their hate
speak and terror mongering. They already done... cooked... finished.

4. So they will be singing to the 31% choir.
I wonder what the convex lens will be hovering over.

I think we will be seeing a solid hit on something.

Scare is not working any more.

Gonna take some real impact to do the trick.

If somebody "engineers" some sort of terrorist strike to shake the nation into submission again, I would HOPE that the Dems could turn the bad guys' best argument against them at that point: "well, we haven't been hit again since 9/11, have we?" It would certainly prove just how desperate the republi-CONS are. Nevertheless, the way they've amped up the rhetoric with all the "isms" they're throwing around all over the place (even some that bush-baby can barely pronounce) makes it look pretty obvious that they ARE desperate now.

Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 12:31 AM by sfexpat2000
all over the country THIS YEAR.

That means, every voter HAS to be in the state database, and it means those pesky machines will count most of our votes.

Keep your eye on it. THIS is how they plan to stay in power -- our votes filtered by Republican databases and cast on Republican machines.

They don't have to cancel any election if they can rig it.

Please do everything you can to help keep your local elections clean. And visit the Election Reform Forum. We could really use your help!

7. What Rove and the repukes forgot ...
is that NOBODY stays in power forever. So now, God willing and the Dems stick together, they'll see how it feels to be in the hot seat. Maybe it will make them wish they had been more fair when they had all the power. Maybe.

Turns out that fact and belief are two separate things after all. Simply saying something 1000 times does not make it so. Eventually, reality comes and bites you in the ass.

12. a white house spokesperson says
White House political director Sara Taylor is confident the republicans will retain their majority: When it comes to handling the war on terrorism and guiding the economy, Taylor insisted, Americans are more likely to trust the GOP. "I think Americans have confidence in the Republican Party and the president to keep them safe," she said.

If that assertion has any merit at all it is a testament to the power of SPIN and nothing else. Is not this the administration under whose watch 911 occurred?! Is this not the administration that has run up the biggest deficit in history after taking office with a surplus?

it seems to me that these republican politicians just say whatever the fuck they please, and the press validates the most outrageous crap just by giving the ink to it without presenting the opposing side . The reporter in this case put this ridiculous assertion in quotes while failing to note the pertinent FACTS that relate to it

that's just wrong. have we as a country of people gotten that used to having information spoon fed such that we just believe bullshit? i don't mean DUers, but i gotta wonder about who knows how many everyday americans - my own older brother for instance. i would swear he is not a stupid man. but according to my other brother he still thinks iraq was involved in the terrorist attacks on 9-11-01, and he keeps fucking FOX on all the time!

sorry. i don't get it.

13. I'm not certain it's "over" with Rove. He may falter, but he's not dead.
He is akin to a political vampire who will rise again until you put a stake through his heart. I won't believe he has no influence until he is shunned (phonecalls not being returned) by republicans, lobbyists, corporate leaders, etc. When it appears more permanent than initial.

16. Rove: 'I change constitutions, I put churches in schools.'"
This short article may deserve its own thread:

At Bill library, Bush sounds sub-versive

President Bush once daydreamed about blasting Bill Clinton's presidential library to smithereens, according to a new book.

In "How Bush Rules: Chronicles of a Radical Regime," former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal recounts a November 2004 visit by Bush and his political guru Karl Rove to the William J. Clinton Library in Little Rock, Ark., on the banks of the Arkansas River.

"Bush appeared distracted and glanced repeatedly at his watch," Blumenthal writes about a presidential tour during the library's dedication. "When he stopped to gaze at the river, where Secret Service agents were stationed in boats, the guide said: 'Usually, you might see some bass fishermen out there.' Bush replied: 'A submarine could take this place out.'"

The author muses: "Was the President warning of an Al Qaeda submarine, sneaking undetected up the Mississippi, through the locks and dams of the Arkansas River, surfacing under the bridge to the 21st century to dispatch the Clinton Library? Is that where Osama Bin Laden is hiding? Or was this a wishful paranoid fantasy of ubiquitous terrorism destroying Clinton's legacy with one blow?"

...

"'You're not such a scary guy,' joked his guide. 'Yes, I am,' Rove replied. Walking away, he muttered deliberately and loudly: 'I change constitutions, I put churches in schools.'"

Amen to that.
