"American Family Assn." to protest 9/11 program: 'firemen were CUSSING!'

CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program

It is time to tell CBS and the other networks that enough is enough!.
Not content with all the profanity already on TV, CBS has decided to air the profanity-laden unedited version of "9/11" on Sept. 10. The decision by CBS is a slap in the face to the FCC and Congress, which recently raised indecency fines to $325,000 per incident.

"9/11," which will be shown in prime-time, contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity. CBS has stated they have not, and will not, make any cuts in the amount and degree of profanity. CBS will ignore the law. The network is suing the FCC over the indecency law, saying they should be able to show whatever they desire whenever they desire. CBS wants no limits.

This is a test case for CBS to see how far they can go. If there is no out-pouring of complaints from the public, they will go further the next time.

The profanity is so bad that CBS has warned their affiliates that they could be subject to huge fines. The FCC says it will fine not only the networks, but also affiliates if the law is violated. Under the new Broadcast Decency Act the $325,000 per incident could run into millions of dollars not only for the network but also for local affiliates.

CBS could very easily bleep out the profanity, but they refuse. The goal of CBS is to be able to show whatever they want at anytime. The network wants no restraints on their programming. If they are allowed to get away with this, they will simply air even more profanity in the future.

Take Action

It is time to tell CBS and the other networks that enough is enough!.

Send an email, asking the FCC to enforce the law. Your email will go not only to the FCC, but also to CBS.

Contact your local CBS affiliate and ask them not to air "9/11." Click Here to find their contact information or use your local phone directory.

Please forward this to your friends and family. Share this information with members of your Sunday School class and church, and urge them to get involved.

If no changes are made and your CBS affiliate carries the program, AFA will provide you with information for filing a formal complaint with the FCC.
Send Your Letter Now!

NEW YORK - Broadcasters say the hesitancy of some CBS affiliates to air a powerful Sept. 11 documentary next week proves there's been a chilling effect on the First Amendment since federal regulators boosted penalties for television obscenities after Janet Jackson's breast was exposed at a Super Bowl halftime show.

"This is example No. 1," said Martin Franks, executive vice president of CBS Corp., of the decision by two dozen CBS affiliates to replace or delay "9/11" — which has already aired twice without controversy — over concerns about some of the language used by the firefighters in it.

"We don't think it's appropriate to sanitize the reality of the hell of Sept. 11th," Franks said. "It shows the incredible stress that these heroes were under. To sanitize it in some way robs it of the horror they faced."

Actor Robert De Niro hosts the award-winning documentary, which began as a quest to follow a rookie firefighter on an ordinary day but resulted in the only known video of the first plane striking the World Trade Center and horrific and inspiring scenes of rescue, escape and death. CBS will show it on Sept. 10 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT, profanity intact.

1. Well, we can't have firemen cussing and offending people like that,
just because they were trapped in a burning building while trying to save people. :sarcasm:

WTF is wrong with these loons?

2. I agree that profanity needs to be highly fined on the networks
especially for gratuitous use or for $$$ entertainment $$$ shock value purposes, but live recordings as this momentous events occurred are neither.

This protest call is plainly stupid.

4. What the F U C K were they curssing about??
In the event such as a massive building coming down around you, I would think that the most conservative person would holler out a couple of "FUCK!!!"s

People who think that they did not curse are naive and moronic...

5. Unfortunately, we Americans are far too squeamish about...
...so-called 'profane' language. We'll happily tolerate murder, rape, assault and every other sort of violence on prime time television without batting an eyelid, but say the word 'fuck' and it's as if the world's coming to an end.

There are a lot of things in America that are profane: Illegal war, poor access to medical care, racist law enforcement, inequitable immigration policies, gerrymandering, corruption, rigged elections...you name it. But very little of what I consider truly profane in this country concerns the use of 'shit' or 'cunt' on television. In fact, if I could be assured of a fair result in the November elections, I'd happily vote for every network to broadcast the word 'motherfucker' all day long.

'Bad' language is so far from being an issue it isn't even fucking funny.

24. Where are these buffoons when those penis-commercials come on TV?
Edited on Wed Sep-06-06 09:04 AM by MikeyJones
Is anybody else sick to death to see these mindless, stupid ass commericals about cock-size and erectile dysfunction in middle-aged men who probably shouldn't be having sex anyway?

Why aren't they bitching about that? I guess Republikkkans own stock in those big pharma corps so they don't attack them.

Part of the RW vendetta against CBS that has been going on for several decades now.

9. Context.
This isn't a case of frivolous abuse.

Okay, I have yet to see it, but I highly doubt any cussing is due to sub-sophomoric juvenile nonsense. Surely even the AFA isn't that obtuse? Check that, how can they be anything but obtuse?

Mind you, if AFA reps were at the WTC site on 11 September 2001, would they have stopped anybody who was running and shouting "Oh shit!" and fine them a boatload of money? Probably...

What will be interesting is how (or if) the CBS show spins the event.

10. Ask any TV station about the complaints it receives
over supposedly "indecent" or "profane" language--or "objectionable" programming. They will tell you that they get something like 3,000 emails all from the same one or two groups and all containing roughly the same language.

Also, please bear in mind that:

1. It only takes ONE complaint for the FCC (fucking DORMANT for better than TWENTY GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKING YEARS ON THIS MATTER) to leap into action.

2. CBS affiliate stations may be fined to the tune of $325,000 per Fuck. Not the network, mind you, EACH AND EVERY STATION THAT CARRIES THE BROADCAST. More money for the Party Of Smaller Government that way, doncha know!

3. FUCK every CUNT that sits on the FCC.

Edited on Mon Sep-04-06 07:46 AM by WinkyDink
Because it is standing firm only about language, which certainly cannot convey the horrors of that day as well as visual images.

Not that I would want any of the latter. Just sayin' that it's a PHONY ISSUE, coming from a major network that goes along with Government black-outs on showing anything from Iraq or Afghanistan, including the returning caskets.

15. I have the most amazing device!
It allows me to change the channels, turn the tv off and on, and change the volume all without leaving my couch! I think if the American Family Assn got one of these nifty devices, they could CHANGE THE DAMN CHANNEL if they didn't want to view the offending material!!!

I depise people that want to censure what I watch because they think they have my "best" interests at heart! :grr:

16. This is all about "protecting children," folks
That's what they call it when they want to stop anything they don't like. "It's for THE CHILDREN!!!"

If using "the children" as a foil to let them do whatever in the hell they want counted as child abuse, all of these people would be in jail. Which they should be.

Let me see...you've got a political party that's willing to exploit for political gain 3000-odd deaths from a terrorist attack that they could have stopped in progress, or prevented if they weren't so hung up on undoing everything Clinton did after he retired and impeaching him for "something." This same political party is willing to kill thousands of Iraqis a month because they can't admit they lied about the reasons for going to war. And we're really supposed to get upset over firemen cursing in a television program about the WTC attack? I'd be more worried if they DIDN'T curse!

Donald Wildmon's normally a hoot and a holler, but this is ridiculous.

21. Remember, these are the same turds who launched a "boycott" of Disney.....
over gays in 1995 -- only to relinquish it a year or 2 ago claiming success even though Disney never gave up gay-day and never stopped making "pornographic" films as these fucking hicks put it.

The thousand-person-strong boycott did absolutely nothing to Disney's profits as Disney's stock price was higher the day the boycott ended than the day it began and was even higher than that during the boycott.

These buffoons need to be locked up in padded rooms because they truly are a public health danger and to all the minds they twist, warp, and pollute with their propaganda.
