was 1994 five generations ago? it seems like it.

the cloying puritanical sentiment seems to have taken over almost every aspect of american public life. although it's always been there, there was that golden age between the very late 60s and late 90s when adult themes were NOT strictly verboten in the public sphere in the united states.

things that passed standards and practices at any network in the 70s are censored now.

i can't remember what show or what movie, but there is usually some point in the show where i get that question mark: "something is missing? when i first saw this, it didn't happen this way."

mid-80s benny hill show on metromedia UHF affiliate in houston, texas: sometimes they let the uncensored version play. t&a on broadcast teevee.

mid-80s pacifica radio station in houston, texas: late night radio show where host played unedited versions of songs replete with profanity, drug talk, sex talk, etc.

this country is becoming more and more disneyfied - does anyone else notice this?

5. My thought exactly.

One shudders to think what it might look like now. I'm actually not opposed to cleaning up broadcast TV; particularly the violence. Many of the commercials seem to me inappropriately sexual/violent/scary/just plain crass, too, and they're often aired indiscriminately at times when little kids can see them--even during daytime sports events. We basically don't let our kid watch anything on TV except Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers.
