Armstrong Williams on Air America in New York?
Is this some kind of sick joke?

http://www.wwrl1600.com/

At first I thought he had finally come out of the closet and changed into a liberal, but sadly, no. Is there a back story here? So instead of listening to Rachel Maddow in the morning NY liberals will wake up to ARMSTRONG WILLIAMS?

I'll be "waking up with Whoopi" tomorrow. Ugh.

3. That's nice but
People are fired all the time in radio, with no warning. For example, 1 hour before WCBS changed their format to Jack, noone outside of management knew what was going on, and in an hour everyone was fired. Seems to me that AAR could have bought out the contract and told him to get lost.

Doesn't own the station. They lease time.

It's being discussed on this thread:

6. Thanks
Seems as though the AAR experiment is dying, though.

7. His contract is with WWRL. The station wouldn't lease the time slot to AAR
so WWRL retains its morning show.

11. Will not miss Rachel
Well if AW is going to be on in the early morning time slot in NYC, they are not going to miss Rachel. She will move to early evening. If AW is on before 9 AM then it is not certain who they will not get on the AAR schedule- that has not been announced yet as far as I know. If AW is on after 9 AM they will be missing Sam Seder evidently who is moving to mornings.

AAR made such a freaking big deal about this NYC station move and now it turns out they are picking the shows they want and putting a conservative in their lineup? AAR is turning into a joke.

12. And while we're on the subject
It's New York City, of all places, one of the bluest parts of the country, and AAR can't find a decent station to pick them up? And is relegated to the end of the dial, with only mediocre reception in most parts of the metropolitan area? And is forced to kowtow to the station's demands and jump through all sorts of programming hoops? I don't know much about the radio industry (obviously) but it seems to me that AAR should have been able to find a better deal for its "flagship" station.

13. That's what happens with corporate ownership
Locks up all the good frequencies. I wonder if AAR would be successful on FM- kind of fits the progressive demographic. There aren't many stations available in NY for lease, the only alternative would be to purchase suburban licenses I guess.
