Johnny Gosch had symbol branded on shoulder

On September 1, 2006, CNN reported that Gosch's mother found two photographs left at her front door, which she posted on her website. One photo apparently shows her son and two other boys bound and gagged. 1st photo The second photo appears to show 12-year-old Johnny Gosch with his mouth gagged, his hands and feet tied, and an apparent human brand on his shoulder. The image has a red arrow pointing to his shoulder labeled "The Brand". According to his mother, the boy in the second photo is Johnny, wearing the same sweatpants as the time he disappeared. (It is unclear who labeled the boy's shoulder in this photo.)

Nobody has said what the symbol is, but with an imaging program called IrfanView, it looks like a square with an x in the middle.

7. It does look like an X

I've been searching but can't find anything about pedophile rings who brand their victims outside of Project Monarch, although their brands are usually described as elaborate (butterflies, cartoon characters, etc), not a simple X. But I'd be very surprised to learn that other pedophile rings don't also brand their victims.

As a side note, does anyone know what John Gosch Sr. did for a living at the time of his son's kidnapping? All I can find is that the Gosches lived in an affluent neighborhood.
